Champion mastery was a terrible idea.

Now I get all these players playing champs, in my ranked games, that they literally have never played before. Why? It's because, "lulzies godda get meh chumpon mastree scor gud". If you're going to introduce something like this, at least use it as an opportunity to actually improve player experience. For example, you must have at least a 3 on a champion to play them in ranked.

You do realize that champion masteries didn't carry over and its possible they played that champion a lot before they were introduced.

I do not feel that Champion Mastery as a terrible idea. But I can agree, that offering levels in Ranked was probably not the smartest idea. The other night my fiancee and I were talking about how to introduce Minimum Champion Level to Ranked Solo Q. So here is the idea:

Over time Riot should slowly get rid if the 16 champions owned requirement for ranked, and in turn make is so that you must have at least 16 available champions with a minimum ranks of say 3 or 4. This would not be unreasonable because people can gain ranks in champions as they level to 30. Riot could even give forgiveness to players who were level 30 before Champion Mastery came out, and slowly raise their minimum rank for those players.
