By now everyone has realized that not having keystones is a huge disadvantage. Sometimes though I see players on my team or the enemy team playing without keystones. Usually they are the ones who feed.
Well, you never know.
Maybe sometime in the future, there will be a strategy that involves taking the lower tier masteries in all trees instead of a keystone, following some large nerf to the keystone masteries.
If such a thing were to occur and Keystones were required in ranked, people would be forced to use a sub optimal strategy.
Keystones? Are we sure we're talking about league here? Do you mean masteries and/or runes?
Had a ranked game with a rammus jungle go without masteries because it was "too easy" to play with them.
