@Lyte What is the "average" League player like, according to the numbers?

All the time, we keep speculating about what the average League player cares about, from eSports (in the positive) to lore (in the negative).

But what do your numbers actually say about the average player? I'm not a fan of using statistics alone to prove a point, but I'm curious if the numbers back up my personal speculation.

I get the feeling that the actual average player: • Lives in Europe or China. • Has around 50 friends in the client but usually plays alone. • Plays less than one game per day on average. • Doesn't play Ranked or is lower than Silver 1 if they do. • Doesn't visit General Discussion, Reddit or any other forum. • Owns less than 20 champions and less than 5 skins. • Doesn't watch eSports in any form.

So, what do the stats say?

Name: Mia Hanoka Race: Asain/American (Japanese decent 2nd generation) Gender: female play style: support Current residence: USA/CA

Average games played in a day: 5-10 pending my mood I play roughly 4 times a week if able and play 10-20 games on Saturdays and Sundays again pending mood.

in client friends: I have had up to the cap 3 times in my three years in league I have emptied my list down to 20 first time 25 the second time and 30 the last time however I have maintained skype with the other players that did not make my permanent list. right now I am about near max friends.

Ranked matches: I dont currently play ranked but not for lack of trying to find a team. I hate the solo duo que chances of toxic trolls are to high. would rather find me a team I can work with and reach challanger.

Forums and other services: what is reddit? other forums for league no ideas... however I hang around champ discussions and these new boards when possible and I always check the red list for those trolls who got ban for being toxic. helps me keep an eye out for those who I should mute at the start of match.

Champions owned: well I dont own 9 of the champs not for lack of trying mind you ip gathering is so GD slow. however I think I might just cave and buy the last of the champs on RP not like it will kill my bank roll plus I can pick up a skin or two along the way.

Skins owned: I cant even count them all but I know I have more then 9. 16 once I counted off the ones I could name off the top of my head.

Esports: well I dont get that channel on my cable service so E sports is out for me. however I watch the LCS on twitch and youtube live when it happens.

I am curious about the point you want to use this info to prove. Everyone plays their own way and chooses where they place value in a product. Is this going to point at when a Rioter says "The average players does X?" Is this to point at when a D1 says "The average player cares about X?"

Is there a reason one needs to compare themself to the "average player" Is there a way to gear changes or designs, not toward the average player but toward a general population? Some people don't see a reason to spend money on a free game, and therefore don't have a lot of skins. Some people don't enjoy the super-competitive side of games and therefore avoid ranked. Some people have no interest in watching others play a video game and therefore don't watch e-sports. Does it really say anything about the players or the product which way those numbers fall when you remember they are based purely on individual interest?

I'm not criticizing; I'm curious now, too.

I live in NA. I have nine friends. You've got me on that average games. Though when I want to play league I can play five or more games a day. You've got me on the ranked. I go to the forums often. I own 73 champions. (a row of champions is twelve icons long, i have six full rows and then zilean. so 6 * 12 + 1 = 73) I own nine skins (Goth annie, headmistress fiora, kitty katarina, red card katarina, jaximus [Here's to you, kid.], special forces gangplank, heartseeker vayne, exiled morgana, and battle bunny riven.) I don't watch eSports. Why bother when I can play the game myself?

There's my stats.

Since it was brought up, I also care about lore.

I live in NA. I have over 200 in game friends. I do typically play most of my games alone, but I do play games with my online friends every few days. I typically play at least 2 games a day when, averaging about 3 or so as of right now. I am (sadly) lower than Silver 1. I do visit various LoL forums from time to time. I own all champions (120 as of right now waiting for Azir to be released so I can buy package for him). I also own at least one skin per champ, and waiting on more legacy skins to open up. I don't watch esports, but I do go and watch highlights of the best and worst plays/ganks within them and some just downright funny ones. I really do love the lore, it makes the champs have more life than just a set of pixels with unique abilities. It gives them context for their appearance and abilities, it also gives reason for certain skins.
