So to dodge the annual preseason debacle I decided to try out Heroes of the Storm for a bit...

... and holy hell this game has some serious clarity issues, especially when you are used to League. Here when something happens it's quite apparent why something causes what, abilities effects and ranges are quite obvious, if not even equipped with indicators (take Vel'Koz Q as an example here).

Yet for some reason something kept me playing...

Took me a while to figure that out, but it's the objective driven gameplay that's just what league lacks. Here in league you either push or are pushed, with an occasional detour to baron or dragon on the way so you can keep pushing.

That's nothing compared to both teams suddenly stopping pushing entirely and suddenly fighting on an underground map segment to who can kill the most undead NPCs to summon some mega-NPC for your side. Same thing with the sky temple map. These objectives change the pace of the game significantly, preventing things going stale.

I'm not saying Riot should start copying Blizzard, nope, actually that would be a horrible idea. But taking some inspiration from it can't be wrong I guess.

For years we had one map, Summoners Rift. Aram is a fan made simplification of that, nothing that contributes something complex or unique. Don't get me wrong, aram games are still fun, yet they just feel like "watered down SR". Almost the same applies to Twisted Treeline. You could have done some awesome unique things with that map, especially when going for that "undead forest" theme. I'm thinking of really small and curvy lanes, low vision range in a maze-like jungle, etc...

And Dominion... well, it's so overrun with bots now, as a normal player it's barely worth playing to be honest. I'm not gonna sink all theat time into meaningless botgames just to be matched with a full team of human players for once.

Not to mention the fact that Riot pretty much stopped caring about it the moment it was released.

It's not that I don't like playing on Summoner's Rift... but all the time? With no other choice available apart from "SR Light"? That kind of sucks... Even from a lore perspective this might have so much potential - think of a map that is Piltover or Zaun themed.

Heroes of the Storm quickly lost my interest with a single factor, and that's their "Talents" instead of items.

While it was cool for Blizzard to try do introduce something new and innovative in to the MOBA market, the 'Talents' make the Heroes seem very stale, as more often than not, there's only one Talent Path that's actually good.

HotS one redeeming quality is their maps. Didn't find their champs fun to play compared to League, limited variety in builds, which is to say you have two build paths for the champ you're playing so champs get stale pretty quickly. I still have it installed, but haven't invested much time, and zero money into it as it just wasn't enjoyable for me after the first couple weeks.

From lore perspective Summoner's Rift doesn't exist. From lore perspective, 90% of champions in this game never met and never will.

I haven't played much but with my 30day ip boost over I'll probably be on rexxar later today lol. Quinn you have valor that only appears for ults and technically is the one procing enemies. Rexxar however, you control 2 seperate freaking beings. You have an actual companion that can be used many different ways. Point being I like the champion and companion concept just not the way Riot does it. I do also like the fact that their supports are REAL supports, with a well defined role.

Other than that HoTS is just kinda there a bit different but doesn't have the same appeal factor as LoL imo.

i tried HOTS as well for a couple days i didnt care to play it very much after that, sure it does some things well, but it doesnt feel nearly as competative as LOL. Personally i like the simplicity that League offfers while at the same time being hard as hell to master. The reason i play League(DOTa is to much time to learn,HTOS is boring as fuck and smite well i like my ott camera )is its fun simple and difficult all at the same time. HTOS is really freakin easy to win games dispite the obj focus in the games.

I don't like how you can't choose what map you play; it's random every time. You could play 100 games and find a map that you're playing for the very first time. When I tried playing with friends, I had to explain each map every time.

The fact that I still have to explain what a champion does when it was released months ago in LoL makes me not so confident that LoL players could learn a handful of different maps in and out.
