If you can get enough S games on a champion you should get the mastery just from that. The fact that you have to use essence, shards, and perms to get a mastery is nothing short of complete bullshit Riot. You literally have to pay to get a mastery 6 or 7 badge.
I'm done paying for anything more in this game until you change this.

Sukishoo2 votesYou can unlock champion shards for 1700 Ip and break them down into essence, it's pretty easy and was made for this reason.
Naenia2 votesTrue this, but the time it takes to collect all the ip to buy those shards.... I have five M7 champs, so I know how long it takes. I mean, luckily, I have had a lot of ip already accumulated, but for the champs I'm working on getting M7 for now, I don't have enough ip to buy the champ shards, so it will take some ip grinding which takes even more time to get than the actual tokens itself. I can usually get the three tokens required for M7 within 4-6 games, but you can't get thousands of ip in that amount of time.
Serevas2 votesI have like 3k of each essence saved up just from free chests, and you're able to buy champion shards with IP, which is a free currency. All you have to do is play the game and you can get there, you just have to not assume it'll be handed to you in 5 seconds after reaching mastery 5.
Lugg1 votesGetting 2 S's for 6 and 3 for 7 is plenty hard enough. There is no reason you should have to do anything else.
Besides, with almost 140 champs, I need my IP to buy those. I have 20 champs at level 5 mastery and more on the way, how am I supposed to buy that many shards?
Serevas1 votesThen pick a priority in the game. You're perfectly capable of getting level 7 mastery without spending a cent, you just have to invest the time and resources that you get simply from playing.
Naenia1 votesYeah, I didn't really understand what the purpose of getting shards and essence and crap was. Mastery levels are to show exactly that: you've mastered that champ! Mastering a champ = high skill level, not how much essence and shards you have in your loot. Therefore, it stands to say, tokens for getting S and S+ (S- for M6) should be the only requirement. It's so frustrating when you have all the tokens you need but can't get that mastery level simply because you don't have enough essence or you don't have that champ/skin shard.
