Is this dude for real QQing about
though?
cho gath can't do anything until he gets to you and his abilities take time to actually land
did you just play kat into cho? if so thats all you.
chogath is a mage
Go to the shop, pick "tanks", Cho'gath appears. Cho-gath is a tank.
Hell, they even buffed his Health stacks on ult. So ye hes 100% Tank
CC is not damage. Cho'gath has plenty of damage, but only if he builds AP and Magic Pen. Which results in him being closer to a mage when he builds AP items and closer to a tank when he builds defensive items. But you can also build him on--hit with Devourer + Guinsoo's + Wit's End.
Darius, Illaoi, and Riven are far more egregious examples.

He has a shit ton damage even if he doesn't build any AP and has the highest base health in game. He is crazy OP.
he is a tank mage... same exact case, they nerfed Ekko because he could do it
Tank Ekko was nerfed because the build covered his weakness of being squishy. Cho'Gath is not designed with that weakness. They're not equivalent

Ekko also has insane mobility. Cho'gath is designed to be a tank, and therefore has a tank-specific kit. Ekko is an assassin mage, and therefore should never have been able to build tanky.
Riot: And let's just give him more HP on his ult, thats okay right?
Then why are champion with mobility allowed to have damage? They have safety, they shouldn't hurt since they have ways to output free damage then escape with theyr mobility. Why squishy champs are allowed to have self-peel? Theyr weakness is to be easily killable, but if they can peel for themselves they are hard to kill. Cho'Gath is an immobile champ with low base ms and low ranges, so his damage output is inconsistent a situational, also he does burst damage meaning that after his rotation is over he won't do any damage untill his cd are up again. Also his ult does less damage than other ults in the game since it does true damage and even by doing true damage it's damage is usually lower than some other ults. His knockup is easily dodgeable with base ms for most champs and his silence has 450 range (less than your average adc's aa range: 550). Not saying Cho is weak but he has clear weaknesses and easy counterplay (immobile, low range, caster type champ) so he also has to have clear strong points (tankyness, damage, sustain) to balance that out: if cho kills you most of the times you made so many mistakes that you have only yourself to blame, not the champ.

Immobile champions that deal damage and aren't tanky are almost always mages with a lot of range (Xerath), or the occasional ADC with a lot of range (Caitlyn.) Mobile champions with damage are assassins. And they should exist, but they should have windows of weakness in which to be killed. I agree with you that Cho'gath is not a bad champion. His ult deals a lot of base damage, but it drops off late game. His Q is also powerful, but it has a long cooldown.
That's what I meant: Everyone has some kind of drawbacks. Cho for his damage and tankyness gets to be slow, immobile and have low range, Xerath for having no mobility and no self-peel gets to have huge range and damage, but once you catch him he's dead. Cait for her range and damage gets to fall off later in the game unless fed. Most assassins for theyr damage and mobility get to either 100-0 you and survive or just die horribly while trying. Crying about cho beying op just shows that someone needs more experience to put it in a nice way. I used to think Renek and Cho were op, then I tried them and understood they were noob-stompers: once you know wha to do they can't hurt you unless you screw up.
Cho is short range tanky mage. He has 0 mobility and he has to put himself very close to do damage. His kit requires him to be somewhat tanky, otherwise he would be destroyed. He is diverse champion. If u build him full AP ,sure he will have HP and huge damage, but if he misses his Q, he is dead. Anything with % hp damage or BOTRK or Liandrys will beast him.
If he would got for standard top lane build:
he will be tanky as hell but he wont do that much damage.

Quick note: replace Frozen heart with Frozen Mallet or Iceborn Gauntlet and Sunfire with Liandry's and that's an ideal build for me. (With the slot occupied by Thornmail being a toss-up situational item, but with the new Iceborn, the high-armor is ideal.)
That build gives him a little more offensive power, and a lot more usefulness as the slows on Iceborn/Mallet and Rylai's can be brutal. But he does lose some survivability, so maintaining 6 stacks becomes essential.
No one is going to mention how deceptively tanky graves is with his current ability to itemize?
