Hi, I need someone to explain something to me

Why is necroing even considered remotely bad? "Don't necro" appears to be a commonly accepted rule on most forums, but why? I can only see the people who get a notification be mildly annoyed of having to read the context of an old thing again, but apart from that, I don't see anything even ever so slightly wrong. Anyone? Am I missing some fundamental step of the history of forums on the internet?

It mostly has to do with the fluidity of members on a forum, though in the case of League, also the fluidity of the game itself.

On many forums, there's no guarantee that those who started a thread a long time ago are still around to respond. Or even the other members participating in the thread, for that matter. So going through and replying to a bunch of people who aren't even around anymore isn't going to strike up any new conversation. In this situation, it's preferred to just have a member put together a new thread with its own context, to be discussed by a fresh set of people, compared to the old thread.

Then, within the context of League itself, the game changes so frequently that a thread from even just 6 months ago would have been discussing a completely different game environment compared to current.

All that said, it is sometimes entertaining here to look back at threads from a few years back to see what people were talking about then :P

One of the main reasons is that necroing a thread that caused a huge heated discussion was left alone for a long time and people forgot about it or got over it and when they see it pop up again theres another uproar about the topic once again. It could've all been avoided if someone didn't necro.
