Un-popular opinion but I personally hate keystone masteries.

They have always been, to me, an un- necessary addition to the game, that just adds to the amount of power creep thats been going on lately. I don't know about you, but I never found it very enjoyable to be killed by a gangplank ult that only did 40 damage to you, but proced his thunderlords for 200 damage. or being killed by a jhin Q that did 300 damage to you and another 350 damage from deathfires. I think without them the game would feel more balanced once again. I know that keystones are very unhealthy on some champions, for example, syndra who hits R on you and then her Ult does like 500 damage and then you take another 300 from thunderlords. I think masteries have too much of an impact now.

Made this post 4 months ago. Still hold this opinion.

So much damage creep happened because of keystones.

If you ask me they're more restrictive than anything else. With some of the new masteries brought in for Preseason I tried to experiment with set ups for my support pages, but the simple fact is that there's pretty much no viable way for me to stray away from one of the very few combos available :l

They came as a result of Masteries feeling useless. It adds another dimension of skill and planning beyond champions, their abilities, and the items they buy. I agree that they are certainly more impactful than ever before, maybe too impactful, but they've certainly enhanced my experience with the game. We can also see how one mastery can almost reshape the meta with Courage of the Colossus on champs that were previously very bad.

For the record, as a Jhin main, I don't like how Deathfire Touch does so much damage for nothing. I think DFT only being good on Jhin and a small handful of others is more the problem itself, though. They are still relatively new and need more balancing. With 130+ champs, it's going to take a long time for everything to fall into place, I guess.
