Welp, GD has officially joined us here in boards and I'm already tired of seeing the whining. Seriously, I don't mind feedback and I understand many people preferred the GD format but I rarely see a comment much beyond "this sucks." The biggest factor that was allowing me to enjoy these boards were the actual discussions we were able to have, but now that GD is over here with their loud mob mentality, I am really off-put. Hopefully it calms down in a week or two.

GD only just became a part of Boards. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and wait a week or two to see if moderation is even a problem. I've yet to see anything that egregious on Boards and that may be because the Reporting system is so efficient. I'm not sure yet.

With any luck the worst examples from GD just threw up their hands at the changes, got into some paranoid delusion about Nazi moderating, or went to that other "geedee" forum that all the "new boards are terrible!" whiners were passing around. Can't say I'd be unhappy with any of those options.

Making a stereotypical assumption that everyone here from GD is just whinnying without reason is absurd. There have been some pretty valid arguments for reopening GD. Don't let the loudest, more ignorant part of a group represent it, especially if it's a minority.

Then keep the complaints on one thread. Thing is, Riot is more likely to notice if it's one big thread rather than a deluge of tiny threads that do nothing but shit up the board and make it look awful.

For fuck sake, there are about 7 threads on the front page dedicated about complaining about the change to boards. 7

3 out of 4 complainers complain for the sake of complaining rather than having any valid reason. People still complain about the color scheme even though Riot specifically addressed it in the Q&A - which the complainers mindlessly downvoted without reading.

It's been, like, a day without the old forum format and you're screaming that Riot "fucked up". The "boards are terrible" crowd are mostly the same people who don't like any sort of change.

It may have only been a day. But they had months of us telling them what we don't like, and a shit ton if the stuff we complained about are still here.

What did you expect to happen in a up vote style forum format like this? Want to know what the solution is to this type of issue? Original GD style where the new posts being spammed are more often than not ignored because the main discussion is taking place in the largest post.

What asskissing? I don't see that as a regular occurrence, unless you mean being nice to people as asskissing, then yeah, the Boards are full of asskissing, because we don't feel the need to call people fagniggers all the time.

Because that is all I see this thread about, and the general vitriol being spewed forth by the original boards community (save for example people like graff that actually try to have discourse) to the new posters that are simply stating an opinion.

We're not really trying to be pompous or superior or anything. We're just bummed out that a place that we use for legitimate discussion is now being invaded by a lot of not-very-constructive discussions. I'm sure there's a group of people from GD who have legitimate concerns and legitimate feedback (I've seen some of them around) and I'd like to hear what those people have to say. But its the majority of GD (at least the loud ones, perhaps not the majority) that are irksome. They make it difficult to have a real conversation with real discussion and willingness to talk back and forth. Instead we are plagued by these "DON'T LIKE IT CHANGE IT BACK RITO PLZ" threads and that's a shame because we really had something nice here.

That's what this posting format thrives on. At least with general style discussion, a large majority of these threads stayed in one area, while the new ones that were being spammed about the subject were generally ignored.

When someone sees a topic they agree with "these forums suck" you can sure as hell bet that if the majority of the posters feel that way, the entire site will give off that narrative.

I feel somehow alienated by it all. I've spent a huge amount of time on GD. But ever since, I don't know, a year ago, that forum has spiraled into a bunch of off-topic spam-posting. It's not like there weren't trash threads back in the day, but the main type of "trash thread" then was "poorly written rant about a Champion being OP". Then, all the "weeb"/"waifu" threads, and the "supports suck" threads, and the "dae feminism = sexism" threads came. It snowballed into a complete mess.

I was wondering why people were so civil and well-spoken here on Boards. It might be that it's because everyone else is in the GD cesspool.

At first i was sympathetic, i didnt like GD but i didnt think it fair to force them to change. Now idc, the first time 99% of them used the boards was to post about how much it sucked... as if they had been using it for months. Sick of the whining at this point.

Oh no, it's almost like Riot demolished a perfectly working forum and forced us all to endure this Still Beta forum while they work out the bugs and treat us like guinea pigs. I'm glad you came here of your own volition, you get a gold star, but we were forced out of our community to engage in this trainwreck, and needless to say, we're not pleased. Until Riot starts getting the message and starts making changes for the better, you'll be hearing a lot out of us.

GD was just as bad to browse on mobile, seeing as there is no mobile version of League's website. So this problem has just been carried over from GD.

It was less bad though.

Load times here are like dial up. Old forums were instant.

That lovely to top button now hovers in the middle of my screen. Old forums at least were tolerable, this is just awful.

That's fair. I've always wanted a mobile version of the League site, so this doesn't change my opinion in that regard. More complex formatting means the need for a mobile site is greater, and I'm ok with that as long as they give us a mobile site eventually. From what I understand, they couldn't do much to customize the old forums at all. Its a trade-off, I suppose.

Doesn't really matter where you go, same issue with people being pseudo intellectual and pretentious, same issue with people having bias and deciding to judge others based on premise of 'group' and clique.

I kind of hate that they added a GD. I thought part of the transfer was that we wouldn't just have a messy category where everything went, we were actually forced to chose a category so if you wanted to find something, you would just find it. Not sift through GD.

You have to remember this, the majority of the old General Discussion people DIDN'T want to come to the Boards. Riot made them come. They like the Forum style and think the Boards are too much like Reddit.

Yes but this "new GD" doesn't change back to the Forum style completely, its just a bastardized version of what GD used to be. I understand the transition is tough and unwanted, but wouldn't it be nice to suddenly have a hankering for a particular topic and be able to quickly find it via categories? Was sifting through a bunch of random topics--when you only cared about Art for example--fun? Even if you like the "random interesting topics" style, you can still view all categories at once, and furthermore there is both "new" and "recent" tabs if you want to look at new things and not just popular things.

These are just some things to think about. I'm not saying the system is perfect, but coming from someone who initially hated Community Beta, I feel GDers could take the plunge and at least give this a try.

Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical of Riot after dealing with them for several years now. I'll believe their customizations when they actually do it. Still miffed they forced us here while it's still clearly marked as "Boards Beta".
