Why do people make alternate accounts just for the boards?

Is it cause they are afraid someone will look them up on lol king or something and see that they are low ELO, like why do people do this?

My name on league is different than on the boards because I changed my name in game but the boards doesn't acknowledge that and still shows the original name.
