Playing with a silver?

I am currently a level 24 who is an average player. I recently met a guy at my school who is level 30 silver. We became friends and started playing together. And that's when I started to lose. Almost every game, I would be doing so bad and he'd be carrying me like a baby. I didn't know why it started until now. Everyday we would play together, but yesterday he couldn't play much. I played a few games without him, and I found the players were so much easier! I don't get it, wouldn't the match making system take both our skill levels into account? Because I felt like it was only taking his. He then came back on and I told him about it, he went on something he calls a "smurf" which was level 20 and we had a good game. So to sum my question up, when he was playing on his level 30, was it only taking his skill level into account (I was always the creator of the party because he was too lazy)?

It takes the average rating of the two accounts and matches accordingly. The reason why he's always carrying is because he is likely more skilled than the players you two were originally playing against; vise versa, you were always having poor games because you were always matched up against more experienced players.

Though, trial by fire is sometimes great for the soul.

Well, long story short is that it puts more weight on his level than yours. It's not about him/her being silver as much as how many normal games he/she has won over the account's lifetime and his level (30). This is one of the problems with new players raising their accounts. When your friend is on their main duoing with you, your lane opponent has a chance of being just as experienced as your friend; above the fact that this allows them to have full runes and masteries above you at the start of the game. Due to the last point, you can't even really win good trades since they automatically have more damage and defenses than you.

It'll get better once you hit level 30 and have a full rune page :)

This may actually work out better for you in the long run in terms of skill. I've played along side golds and plats before (I'm currently bronze) and done decently, and when I go into soloq I usually do way better than my opponents. Playing with people of a higher skill will help you play better overall. Like Kaxi said, trial by fire.
