What does "peeling" mean?

I hear people saying that word often now and I don't get what it means... No bull rudeness.

It means keeping enemy champions from getting right on top of your squishy champions. Its easy to peel for an adc or a ranged midlaner. Peeling for your fed melee champs is a little bit more difficult. Just keep who ever they are focusing close to them and do your best to keep tanks with cc away from them

Doing the job for your melees I think is best done by thresh and naut, as they can pull in a target, while throwing out AoE CC to keep the whole team restricted.

Hey Trellerus,

Peeling is when you prevent an enemy champion from applying constant close pressure to someone on your team.

If I'm an ADC and a Pantheon is jumping on me, if you use a stun or CC (Crowd Control, which is like slows, snares, knock ups) to stop him from mercilessly stabbing me in the face, that's peeling.

Peel is a very important thing you can do in the game to ensure that your damage champions are able to continue to do damage and do not get shut down and killed before they can impact the team fight.

Football metaphor time! The front line of an offense tends to peel off the opponent's defensive line so the quarterback and running backs can make plays.

I hope that answered your question, let me know if you have more :D

As a dolphins fan, my team has no ability to peel for the QB, especially when 3/5ths of the starters are injured.

ModKnightsKemplar2 votes

As in, lack of peeling is why Tony Romo is always injured.

Peeling: To remove at least one enemy from one or more allies by any means available to you at the time. Often, but not always, involves the use of status effects to debuff enemies, buff allies, or both.

Peeling is third person kiting.

I...I think.

lol Probably the most interesting description of it I've heard.

Rendarkan2 votes

Everyone does that though considering for some reason they all go "Lets shoot the tank and let the enemy ADC rip us a new one." Or... if you play Teemo.

Playing Teemo is the default peel because everyone ignores the half dead easy kill to chase down a full HP Teemo.

Protip: buy item 3041 as Teemo, to make your global taunt even more powerfull!

Pick Janna sit next to your adc you now understand peeling if you do it right.

While she is arguably the strongest traditional support in the game she cannot deal with soraka.

So if you intent to play her make sure to ban the banana

Basically getting a tank bruiser assasin off one of your carrya by using some sort of cc like a stun slow or knockback.

Usually done by the support a tank like shen or naut or sometimes mid if they are a control mage like lux.

Often the hardest job in the game and the one that comes with the least amount of praise.

It's important to note that you don't need CC to peel (although it does make things a lot easier). In some situations, it would be better for the Assassin or Burst Mage to "peel" a squishy just by doing damage. "Death is the greatest form of crowd control" (Unknown).

BluePolarizer1 votes

An assassin should not be peeling IMO because they can't kill enemy fighters or tanks and its a 50/50 vs. another assassin. It's situational but I would rarely use burst against a non-squishy.

kaltenashes3 votes

tl dr, peeling is preventing the enemy to reach your team carries

an example would be when you play more defensive with alistar, every time a fighter/assassin tries to get close to your carry you use your cc

Making the enemy team hate you by keeping them away from your other team mates using any means possible.

Lulu uses pix on cho. continues orb walking tactic.

MasterYi Still chasing cho. he is low now.

Lulu* Ults cho. Continues orb walking tactic*

MasterYi * chasing*

Lulu wondering why this yi won't stop chasing. polly. Proceed with orb walking tactic.

MasterYi *Gets deleted by our Diana because he decided to chase our cho for 10 years while i was extending his life by 100 years each time he caught up. *

Diana "/all Bronze chase"

Lulu "Ayy"

Chogath "Me love you long time lulu."

It wasn't until the chase ended that i realized i could have just used polly on cho for the speed boost..i was panicked the whole time so it never crossed my thought lol.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Though because Yi can still cast his Q if Cho isn't fast enough, so polymorphing is not an at all bad idea.

When a muthafucka on the enemy team jump in like a badass and try to kill yo adc. U gotta slap that bitch in the face, and be like "Nah bitch, you goin have to get through me first"

biobirbbyy2 votes

The term peeling means too CC the opponent so that they get off your ADC or other squishy allies. Janna is very good at peeling. She has a knockup, a knockback, a heal, a shield and a slow. Same with Naut. When you 'peel', you get the enemies off your squishies. Whether that be speeding up allies, slowing down enemies, snaring, stuns, etc.

Sire Hippington2 votes

well, Cc usually is used, but it's not the only way. Bodyblocking and simnply beeing a damage threat between them and your carries already can be enough to peel. A squishy assasin while think twice befor jumping close to a garen or shyvana that stand right next to their carry.

ChaoticPinecone2 votes

getting an enemy champion away from you or your carries. usually more applicable for the ranged, squishy carries.

can be done with CC, speedups (Lulu, Zilean), shields, heals, defensive bonuses (Braum, Taric), or raw damage killing whoever dives your backline. Or, if you like playing assasins, forcing the enemy champions who like to "dive" to peel for their team (through something like a defensive Malphite or Sej ult) instead of going for your carries.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

You basically keep shit away from your squishies so they are alive.

Preventing an enemy from either; killing your teammates, or locking them down with crowd control. There's a handful of ways to do this, the most common & reliable would be to crowd control the enemy first (like amumu, maokai, & leona). Another would be to counter-engage the enemy, wait for them to move in, then interrupt them while they are separated or attempting to combo (such as fiddlesticks, alistar, & nautilus). Also there's just flat out protecting the ally instead; either shielding them by body blocking for them, shielding them, buffing them, or healing them (commonly braum, janna, orianna, & soraka). The least common due to the usual lack of effectiveness, would be kill the enemy first (unless you're also a high damage champ, like caitlyn, brand, & katarina).
