Tank Katarina Top

Okay so I understand this sounds dumb. Like REAAAAAAAAAALLLY dumb. But hear me out.

So I've been playing tank Katarina top, and so far it's fairly decent. So I'll usually go if I'm fighting AD and if I'm fighting AP I'll go . If I'm ahead, I'll go or and if not I'll go or and get . Now this isn't AMAZINGLY strong, but I find it's decent. And I think when the mage update comes, making and have CDR, I think it'll be better. Basically, I find with Katarina's SUPER high base damage on her ultimate, combined with the few AP items and then going tank it can be good. Now I know that there's going to be a lot of people who are thinking I'm crazy, and I won't deny that, but if you do tell me why.

I have seen semi-tank Kat work but not full tank. She just doesn't have the base damage, especially against traditional toplaners who will shrug her off and interrupt her ult.

Ap bruiser katarina works wonder in very specific matchups... she is one of nasus' hardest counters that I know of, and does decent against garen as well

Meh, not gonna accomplish much up there. The goal with Kat is to snowball hard, not only will you not be able to kill the enemy top laner (who's going to rush cowl), you won't be able to roam bot lane for those doubles.

Also, if you're going to build tank Kat and rely almost entirely on your ult, you should probably add BV to your item list.

Seems good. Even though Titanic Hydra got nerfed it's still a pretty good item. Plus Tri Force for that Sheen proc.

Probably works the same way Tank Akali works. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up catching on eventually.

I would never do it, personally. A big pool of conventional toplaners would probably be able to straight-up ignore those Kat Q's and bully her out of farm.

Not a lot of damage, no means to lock in kills for someone else, no sustain....trying to run that kind of champ against someone who's primary goal is to survive for as long as possible seems pretty dangerous. And that's beside the fact that it could potentially mess with your team comp quite a bit since most toplaners usually have something more meaningful to offer in teamfights (or can simply split push really well). "Not my scene, baby!!"

I've played it. Trinity -> Hydra -> tank was pretty good.

Not sure if it's particularly good after the trinity nerfs, though.

If Protobelt survives you can add that to your build. Fairly certain that thing's going to be broken on anyone who can use 2 of the 3 stats and Kat gets some good mileage out of all 3.

Yeah I was going to wait for the mage update to try this but I found it was fairly decent already. But, Protobelt will make tank Katarina really strong. The build I posted usually you get around 200-300 AP, so you're still able to assassinate a squishy. Thing is when you build full AP Kat you're able to assassinate tanks as well (usually).

45% Cdr kat is gonna be sextastic. I already run cdr and get lucidity shoes. I can't wait.

On the topic of off-tankarina top, sunfires with w max into rylais+liandries lets you fight tanks, adcs, bruisers and apcs without exploding while still doing decent damage while being instanely sticky. If you combo your abilities right, you can actually perma slow with rylais too, which is pretty cool.

Lucidity shoes also helps with tp/flash which you'd probably be taking top for the free kills that inevitably show up for you in bot. Moreover, with sunfires and cdr you actually have pusning power and can take turrets.
