I've got to let League go
I've had so much time and money invested into this game that I was convinced that I couldn't leave. But now, I'm convinced that I can. True, it's more the time spent than the money spent, but it's still an investment.
Why? Because I no longer find league fun anymore.
This meta is no fun. I'm tired of AD champions being strong enough that they guarantee victory late game. I'm tired of champions building like a bruiser, but hitting like a Marksman. Master Yi, Xhin Zhou, and Yasuo are some of the biggest offenders; if everyone's at full build, they will win the game single-handedly. They become too hard to kill, but they have enough damage to annihilate someone going full tank. Towers are a joke; they die like they're made of paper, and they don't do any damage unless you're level 1-3.
I'm tired of assassins that Riot refuses to fix. If you play an immobile burst mage, in most games in the mid lane are a truly awful experience. You hug the tower for dear life in hopes that you don't die, but you just do anyway. My main isn't viable anymore, unskilled players constantly get carried by either friends or devourer junglers or assassins that just win the game by themselves. In my elo, I'm stuck because the only way to defeat these champions is good coordination with your team, and that's impossible in bronze. Why don't I play assassins? Because it would take way too much training for me to bother. I just assumed they'd fall out of meta before it got to this point, but I just can't stand assassins.
Still don't believe me that this meta is no fun? Games either end around 20 minutes because an assassin or devourer jungler gets fed super early and destroys everything, or you spend the game crouching under tower, because everyone, even the tank, is afraid of getting blown up in a matter of seconds. That, or option number three is you cower until 30 minutes, and the first jungler to get sated wins. Unless you didn't get a sated devourer jungler; then you're fucked at this point in the game, because your opponent is always a devourer jungler, and they always win if they make it to about 30 minutes. No one else in the game matters all that much, other than maybe the marksman.
I may come back for the mage update to see if I can reassess my opinion, but from what I've seen of the mage reworks, Riot is breaking a lot of the big reworked champions (with the possible exceptions of Cassiopia, and maybe one to two others), and all of the smaller reworks are not that helpful. At least, from what I've seen. I guess with Hextech Starburst (or whatever they're going to call it) immobile burst mages don't quite need to hug the tower so much, or they will die less often under tower.... that or avoid wasting flash so often. I'll have to see what happens. Until that time, I have to leave.
This game is way more stress than relief. Yeah, it feels great to get fed and stomp, but all this stress I go through trying to get out of the shithole that is Bronze, is not worth those moments. They're few and far between. I feel cheated more often than I feel accomplished... Not to mention that getting carried sucks as well. When you get carried, you have to deal with the other team's salt, and you probably aren't going to feel like you accomplished anything. I don't know about you, but when Xin Zhou goes godlike at 10 minutes in, soaks up all your kills, so you're going like... 0-2-8... that doesn't feel great either. It's like... well, we won, but it's not because I contributed much at all. I may have provided a little damage or some cc, but if you're Mid, Top, or ADC, and you get carried.... it's not fun.
I'm not going to pretend that I know precisely what this game needs, but I do know that Sated Devourer and Bruiser builds are a problem right now. Especially bruiser builds that use Sated Devourer. Don't say Sated is balanced because you can counter jungle. Counter jungling is a very dangerous thing to do, and that should not be the only recourse to save an entire game from one champion with one broken item. Devourer is too safe, Sterak's and Dead Man's Plate are too safe, and all of these contribute to wins that some people clearly don't deserve.
Don't you feel cheated, when the 0-4 Xin Zhou or Master Yi pops out of the brush and takes you down from over 75% health, just because he finished his rageblade and farmed until he got sated? Riot did nerf these items, but they're still too strong. They provide way too much comeback to feel fair, and is part of the reason I'm leaving.
I know I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion by people who main these strategies and think I'm just a filthy scrub, but I've said my peace. I don't care.
Maybe I'll see you all around, if Riot can get their shit together.
