this server movement seems to just be swapping pings from east and west instead of equalizing

from the reddit megathread, alot of east coast players are reporting that they are getting ping anywhere from 15-40, but the west coast players are now getting 70-90. im not sure why we are going into this server change when this doesnt solve anything and there will still be complaining from the playerbase

Less players on the west coast, and a lot less players getting 80+ ping. Sucks to be you if you do, but you are a minority. Now, I get the 25 ping freelo. Mwahaha.

Dear Salty West Coast player,

I must say that it was only recently that this change has happened, and Rito will work on this. In the meantime, us East Coast Players have been living with 70-90 ping constantly for a while now, and the west Coast Players have had a lot of lag-free games with the 15-40 ping they get. Needless to say, it is now the East Coasts' turn to experience nice ping.

Sincerely, a Happy East Coast Player.

This was only a test. I can promise you that once they get all of the Chicago servers up and running that the west coast ping will drop to between 30-60ms. If nothing else, Riot is using the mentality of 'the greater good.' There are far more players in the entire US than just the west coast. If west coast pings have to rise a little bit so that other players in the US can experience less lag overall, then it is a fair trade off. I have been living with 90-110 ping my entire League career. I am finally glad to be able to compete with west coasters. Trust me, the disparity between 30-40 and 90-110 ping is HUGE when playing League. Now, the ping variance across the US will drop tremendously and we can enjoy League on a whole new level.

raises hand

I just did the ping test a few times in a row. The first one is always in the hundreds, while the next three always seem to be 61-62 ms. Is the first one an outlier since it's the beginning of the test, and the other three test pings when the connection is stabilized and is my actual ping?

Because I can live with 61-62 ping as a West coaster, considering my ping used to be 69 (heh) until I purchased better internet during college.

Have you gotten a game on the new servers yet? In Virginia, I've been seeing a 45 ping drop in the new servers. If you've been getting an increase of 45 ping, then there's a problem. A rise of 10-20 ping isn't too bad.
