Dont let Galio ult be interrupted by modified auto attacks

Mongoose··78 votes·5,725 views

sometimes when i play galio and i flash ult for a 5 man taunt, the enemy leona or blitz will hit me because of the taunt but they will have the knockup or stun on next attack so it interrupts after like .5 seconds

Same thing probably also happens with braum

can these attacks not interrupt galio? that would be awesome

I think this is the wrong way to buff galio. It takes counterplay away from him.

What he actually needs are manageable mama costs, and better mobility. Someone earlier mentioned that his Ult should be similar to aatrox's dark flight where he jumps up then down before the aoe. It would give him more counterplay, but also buff him at the same time.

qaECfPHVZ86 votes

Autoattacks being able to interrupt Galio ult is the very definition of no counterplay. Simply BEING one of the champions that can do so completely nullifies that spell completely, and the Galio has no control over that. There are so many ways to interrupt it without a stunning autoattack which fit the general idea of what counterplay for AOE should be like (AKA keep your distance, dodge it, etc). It's simply strange for an AOE ult like Galio's to have counterplay in the form of being hit by it only if you're a champion with a certain spell. I think this change would be a good addition to the other buffs you've brought up.

The5lacker3 votes

...What? Requiring Galio to not ult around enemies who can interrupt him with single use AA abilities, or after those abilities are on cooldown, is the definition of no counterplay to you?

LeeDark2 votes

Attacking someone who is forcing you to attack them isn't counterplay. Letting the ult hit you because you are the Braum or Leona is counterintuitive.

what OP is suggesting is a quality of life buff at the most. It makes it so when you flash ulti their entire team, braum auto attacking BECAUSE HES TAUNTED doesnt make every other taunted champion set off a stun they had no control over.

Well, how ELSE am I supposed to interrupt Galio? You might as well take it half a step further and say he's immune to hard CC for the duration, which is totally unfair.

EvilScotsman19748 votes

i guess what op is saying is,

If they are caught in his taunt dont let it be interrupted, if you are outside it still can be (cho q ect)

it is annoying if leona has her q charged and you hit the taunt that it will break it because you are stunned or because of concussive blows if you catch a braum and others in there the 4 hits will happen rather quick and you get knocked out of it.

You can do a ton of things from outside the range of his ult to cancel it (or starting outside and then finishing even after being taunted outside of AA modifiers), for instance: Aatrox Dash Ahri Charm Alistar headbutt Amumu Bandage toss (it stuns the target) Anivia Stun Annie Q stun Ashe ultimate Azir Dash through (knockup) Blitzcrank pull and silence Brand Stun (maybe a little too short ranged, not sure) Braum ultimate Chogath Rupture and (maybe) silence Elise stun Fiddlesticks silence (might need to bounce to be in safe range) Fizz ultimate Gragas Bodyslam and ultimate Hecarim ultimate Heimerdinger E or ultimate E Janna Tornado or ultimate Jax Leapstrike+counterstrike combo Kalista ultimate Kassadin Q (cancels channels) Kennen passive+ultimate Lissandra ultimate Lulu ultimate on an ally near to Galio, polymorph (maybe, not sure about range) Malphite ultimate Malzahar Q silence Nami Bubble, ultimate Nautilus Q or ultimate Olaf immune to it anyway Orianna ultimate Pantheon W stun Poppy ultimate and then knock him back while immune to the taunt Sejuani Q, ultimate Shyvana Ultimate (maybe, but knowing Shyvana that's a toss up) Sion ultimate, (maybe) Q Sona ultimate Soraka E Syndra E stun Taric E stun Thresh hook, (maybe) flay Tristana ultimate Trundle pillar TwistedFate gold card Urgot ultimate at later ranks Veigar E Velkoz knockup Vi ultimate Viktor ultimate (cancels channels) Warwick ultimate Xerath stun Yasuo Q knockup Zac E or ultimate Ziggs satchel charge Zilean double bomb stun Zyra ultimate

Yeah, not a short list in the slightest.

I logged in just to upvote you. I've been playing Galio as one of my mains since Season 1. When people know how to play against him he almost becomes useless...

Don't get me wrong.. I love playing me some Galio. But his ult is such a major part of his kit - and when people don't know how to play against him he can be so much fun and completely turn the tide on a teamfight. There must be a middle ground somewhere - someone below suggested that people caught in his ult cannot cancel it, but someone outside of its range - pantheon for example - could w stun from outside its range and cancel it. Still provides counterplay but without over doing it..

Shadow Gilgamesh7 votes

I think it being interruptible is fine, the ult is a large multi-hitting CC that deals decent damage to fighters and tanks, and loads of damage to squishies, so having SOME way to counter it beyond QSS/Mikael's is good (and most of the empowered autos that stop it are on supports). I think a better change is making it so it's not reliant on flash to be in a good position, the last couple days there was a topic suggesting something like Aatrox's Q should be built into the ult as a gap closer, something like that would probably be nice without removing what's already a fairly limited counterpicking way of handling it.

ElJanitorFrank2 votes

You're missing the point, the OP isn't complaining because it can be interrupted, he's complaining because taunted champions with a modified auto attack interrupt it, which no one has control over. If you taunt Braum and a few other teammates, your ultimate is almost worthless. If you taunt a Leona who just so happened to have activated her stun, your ultimate is almost worthless.

No one is saying he should be CC immune, just that it shouldn't be interrupted by things outside the players (any players) control.

Giving Galio a positioning tool in addition to the ultimate would make him outclass Malphite's ultimate in almost every way. NTY.

Braum No TwistedFate Because XinZhao Counters Udyr Exist

This happens with all taunts, you're basically asking for a taunt buff.

ElJanitorFrank4 votes

Except the other taunts aren't Channeled. Which is the point. Galio's Taunt MUST be channeled in order for it to actually taunt someone, you should be able to stop someone from taunting...by being taunted by them.

Rikari1 votes

Other taunts also don't have potential to taunt the enemy team, slightly heal the user or do explosive damage to everyone in range.

LeeDark2 votes

No, it doesn't happen with all taunts. Rammus and Shen don't STOP taunting you because you hit them. The OP isn't even asking for the ult not to be channeled. It could still be interrupted, just not by someone who is BEING taunted.

Flawless Fetus2 votes

? if Rammus taunts bear stance udyr, Rammus' taunt doesn't break. Essentially you're an idiot. Lol.

OnanThaMan2 votes

No the fact that tenacity no loner affects the duration of the taunt is good enough. Or would you rather Nunu/fiddle/kat/Malz be affected the same way with this proposed change.

LeeDark1 votes

Nunu? Maybe. It's worth looking at. And maybe it would mean a nerf to damage to.

Fiddle's ult isn't channeled. The proper counterplay if you can stop it before it starts IS to stop it before it starts. The proper counterplay to Galio's ult should NOT be to LET it taunt you. Kat's ult isn't CC, so the same is true. The proper play can be to cancel the channel.

Malz already has that functionality. The target of his ult can't CC Malz in response. (Well, CC with a travel time can do it with really good timing, but that's an edge case.) The proper counterplay to Malz ult is an item.

Or to have team mates to cancel it for you :D

I think fiddle and morgana are two champs (and kennen I believe) who even if you stun or taunt them, their ultimates will keep hitting you, and I find it funny that I once killed a thresh after he grabbed me, but still got pulled towards his dead body lol

If these champs can perform such strong moves unhindered, a little help on Galio to avoid having his ultimate cancelled isn't so bad. Immune to cc from taunted enemies? No, that is not the solution, but just a way to create a window. If his E was a silence, (or as I've said before, a charge with a knock-up) he could time his ultimate to get avoid CC, or see that it will be cancelled and pull back until an opening arises.

Castman2 votes

I would like to point out (like my previous thread) that op has to use summoner 4 to get in there lol. Burning a summoner's spell isn't bad enough to land that ult, it can still be interrupted easily with AA modifier.

Flemman2 votes

burrowed rek'sai is the biggest offender for me, not even the need of using a time limited spell :s

Levyathyn2 votes

I disagree. I understand it can suck to pull off a five man ult and have it busted, but these abilities exist for a reason. In my opinion, if an enemy Udyr, Leona, or whoever has a disruptive attack and has it ready for when you come in, it should let them save their team. It's a strategy, and the same thing is true of an enemy Katarina, for example. It's a strategy.

Rakan Garfield1 votes

I feel like what you are proposing is... not what Galio needs. Galio needs a good way to close the gap on his ultimate. The fact that some champions have a way to interrupt it through modified aas is fine. There needs to be some decision making for Galio other than "let's jump into 5 people whenever my ult is up." For those who are complaining about Braum, you got counterpicked; deal with it. The fact that 1 champion does absurdly well against you does not mean that the champion you are playing is underpowered, you are just using him against the wrong team.

LeeDark1 votes

LETTING the ult hit you should not be the right play to stop it from being effective.

Apollocliptic1 votes

{quoted}

LETTING the ult hit you should not be the right play to stop it from being effective.

I agree with his point about braum, You got counter picked, deal with it. The very nature of Braum and Udyrs skills are to be the bane of channel skills like Galio's, and if done right, you can let Braum stun you before activating ultimate due to the cd on it's reuse, or you position yourself well to get your full damage before the stun triggers (braum is slow moving with a slow attack), if he is furthest away, you can already get 4-6 hits on you before braum lands one, then just hourglass before it triggers, dealing your heavy damage and letting team come and clean up

Udyr is a much bigger nuisance than braum, and I main Galio, I can counter Braum but late game udyr is a super damage dealing tank that you can't outrun, burst kill, sustain damage kill or CC effectively. But again, you got countered, next time don't pick Galio first :D or just own everyone else before udyr or braum can have any impact

LeeDark1 votes

Nobody is saying it should be immune to interruption. Just that whoever interrupts it should have to be OUTSIDE the AoE. Again, the point you quoted but failed to actually address in any way, ALLOWING CC TO HIT YOU SHOULD NOT BE THE RIGHT PLAY AGAINST CC.

TenaciousKz1 votes

Maybe if you could time your ult properly and not just run in and ult at every moment you got, this wouldn't be such a problem. Is udyr in bear form? Don't taunt yet. Does Xin have his Q ready? Don't taunt yet. Simple little things make or break your usefulness as a Galio player. Don't complain because of your inferior skill.

Apollocliptic1 votes

udyr can swap to bear form when you ultimate, and his cd is too short to reliably land an ultimate while he can't swap back.

And for clarity, i mean the ultimate animation (or the flash as some use) has a delay long enough to promp AA cc, before the taunt takes effect.

Btw, saying it's down to inferior skill when the enemy has such a natural advantage is just naive. Personally, I handle champs like udyr by charging him, rather than going straight into ultimate, i hit w before he gets into range, let him stun me, watch a bunch of cc smack me around, then (if the enemy is smart enough to back off) flash ultimate them while udyr's stuns is on cd. If you land a five man ultimate, even if udyr breaks it again, you've probably stacked up maximum damage already, and your team should be using your e to follow you in anyway. That and the number of cc skills you force the enemy to waste, the biggest problem isn't Galio having his ultimate cancelled, but when Galio is the only player on your team doing well, and he has to "engage" "tank" "defend" and "deal damage" which even though there are some champs who can, there shouldn't be, and if the team isn't so weak, even a cancelled Galio ulitimate gives your team a strong opportunity to instigate and control the fight

Rueian1 votes

Make it a charm rather than a taunt and give it bonus damage for each charmed champion within his AoE.

Or

Lower the base damage, make the explosion radius bigger, have it do multiple waves of small taunt/charms and have him CC immune during it.

His ultimate looks like it should suck people in hence the charm effect.

Would probably work pretty well if his ult applied a debuff to enemies that were caught in it when it was first cast that disabled on hit CC only on them, so if you are playing Leona or something you can still use the Q to stop the ult just only if you were outside of it when it was cast.

NoMonku1 votes

While it would be nice, I'm against this. I personally like Galio and I feel this would make him very strong, but for this reason, I'm against it. If you flash ult, basically the only way someone could stop your ultimate is for them to not even be remotely close to you. If abilities like Leona Q and Blitz E aren't allowed to knock you out of your ultimate, it makes Galio incredibly resistant to CC. What if they weren't actually in the ultimate range when you cast it and are going in with their modified auto attack to break your ultimate? They then would just have to stay back and won't be able to do anything(I'm going off the situation if their other abilities aren't up, for Leona her R and Blitz his Q and R). That seems unfair imo.

Apollocliptic1 votes

I commented earlier on a point similar, I think Galio's ultimate should have a mini-silence before it triggers, stopping prompted skills, but anyone outside the ulti can go in and cancel it, and enemies like udyr and braum still affect it regardless.

But even without that, I have to add that many times I have flashed ulti when blitz or leona have not prompted their stuns, but in that window (less than a second) before the ultimate stops these skills, they get activated. I agree with some comments, just having Galio present makes the enemy team very cautious with their CC and I have won 3 consecutive teamfights without using his ultimate, just by charging in and scaring the enemy out of position. I love him and how he can be played, but every once in a while I get this bug where I ulti, it gets cancelled before it triggers, and I get locked into the ultimate posture but without casting it. I just think stopping enemies from just tapping that AA CC "As" they get taunted is unfair, they should either have it primed before hand, or they be outside and activate it, so somehow closing the window where they can counter it would be nice.

But to be fair, something much simpler would make Galio's life easier, if his ultimate is cancelled, reduce the cd of the spell, not a lot, but from 3 minutes to 2, most of his opponents have such short ultimate cd that even though he counters them, if they are just aggressive enough they can hit their ultimates twice before he can use one that is very difficult to land or get in range with

Shorter cd if its cancelled, and turn his e into a charge and his spells would synergize much better without taking away counter play options
