Azir, Karthus and Kassadin are all great and fun champions.

Isn't Azir trash tier now?

Tier lists are more opinion based than anything else. Azir is still plenty capable of stomping the enemy team into dust and forcing them to become the sand of his soldiers. He is also just crazy fun to play.
