I just bought her and i only need to spam her skills in rapid succession to cancel into each other

Are you getting an auto attack in between skills? That is the thing some people find very difficult to learn.
That's not animation canceling, that's just spamming spells. Boxbox has done a video on YouTube explaining it, give it a watch to see what they actually are
I don't see any recent games with riven... I'd honestly be impressed if somebody was legit doing well with her in gold +. I've seen more than several mains getting crushed this season despite hundreds of games total with her and it's kind of depressing lol
