Looked at somebody's profile on op.gg or a wesbite like that and wondered how they got to that rank? I just looked at somebody's and they had poor win rates on every champ (under 50% for most), horrid KDAs (Not a single one over 2/1), but were Gold last season and higher than me now? I understand they were probably Gold MMR and dropped, but still, how? I'm not saying I deserve higher than what I am, but I just can't make sense of how this works?

There's a lot to winning league; sometimes weaknesses can be covered up by other strengths.

For example, a lot of people want to "carry" games, disregarding their overall teamwork and focusing on as much solo power as possible--this works in some matches, but not all. Similarly, if a team can work together well, each player could have much lower solo power and still win because they synergize effectively.

It could be that these players aren't very good by themselves, but can adapt to a broad range of play styles to compliment their team mates.

The objective in this game is to kill the enemy Nexus, those people are consistently better at you at doing that.

KDA is just there to make you feel good about losing or to puff up your ego even more while winning.
