My friend only plays Sona Support

**Disclaimer: I am not trash talking or talking about how angry I am with my friend in any way, shape, or form. I'm just trying to blow off some steam by sharing the frustrations I face in game whenever I play with her. (Just got out of a game where she literally did everything written below and was a huge reason for us losing.) ((The main reason we lost tho was our troll Nasus.)) (((He intentionally fed GP then always split push [and died] )))

She doesn't really play support as a support "should be played" according to the meta.

For example, she doesn't take exhaust. She doesn't buy sightstone. She likes to roam to help all the lanes as opposed to just helping the adc. (she abandons adc sometimes cuz mid is being ganked or something. She's just nice like that)

She just really likes to poke and do damage and just enjoy the game recreationally as opposed to the intense 5v5 team fights strategic win.

She enjoys the game for the game.

...yet she spends most of her time clearing large minion waves as opposed to helping her team in a team-fight. No, she doesn't do this to troll or spite anyone, she just does this because she fears that the large minion wave will push like 3 turrets. Mind you, if she just assisted us in the fight, we could of used her ult to secure the "win" of the mini-battle and then someone ELSE who can actually wave-clear will go clear that huge wave piling up.

Instead we just always die 4v5 (occasionally we win but that's either because we have a good smurf or someone on our team is just fed from he laning phase) and then we end up losing 4 turrets because the enemy team pushed the lane that the fight took place in and the wave of minions that she was trying to clear was too much for her and pushed the lane anyways.

I explained to her that Sona is one of those champs who just CANNOT wave clear a monster wave, but she refuses to listen. And then we lose. Then she says, "let's play another." I mean.. idk lol

Is she playing full offensive Sona? 21-0-9, rushing sheen into lich bane, taking ignite over exhaust (which btw is becoming a meta call now), it sounds like for the most part she's doing fine as that type of Sona. Hell, being able to roam mid successfully is pretty impressive for such a squishy champion to be caught out with.

The turrets she's defending, is it just an outer turret? Try to tell her the value of the outer turret for the outside lanes goes down in priority for protecting if you guys are taking an objective or teamfighting.

Does she take any of the supporting items, because that will help her get gold. Also tell her that the big waves are free gold for the carries. And if a wave is pushing to your tower, just take 2 seconds to send someone there because its easier to win towers with all lanes pushing in your favor. Then your friend won't be tempted to push them for you.

You might also want to explain the laning phase to your friend. She's probably just trying to help but it would be easier on everyone if she stuck with you at least until 6 or first dragon.

it seems she is an ideal bard player suggest her to buy a bard

also be glad you don't fight with her for mid lane, lol

well she is playing the game just to enjoy it and not to get better. You can try to coach her and tell her some hints/techniques and if she builds weirdly ask the reason and then provide a better build that still fills the way she likes to play while providing supportive elements to the team. I play Sona support all the time and i go and wave clear when i see a giant wave and no one is going for it as long as no one is trying to fight

I mean is there really anything wrong with her build? Granted just because she doesn't buy a sightstone doesn't means she is not warding. While a usually on support champs if she can just buy wards and use them by all means do that! Roaming as a support is usually a good thing mainly because as a support that is your job. Supporting the team. Granted the ADC does need the CS, as well as kills, I persoanlly wouldn't leave my adc till after laning phase! To be fair there is nothing wrong especially with a poke heavy like Sona, to take some damage items! It's really annoying for the enemy team especially early game. I have made people rage quit (according to the enemy team) for being so active. You especially deny CS for the enemy because of your q and auto attack, sooner or later they'll get killed or have to go back. It's not all that bad but as a support I am always thinking of my teammates and know that while I may Ks from my q, aa, or ult. I'm still tryin to give them the kills!

if your support player is concerned about a minion wave taking down many towers, it might be a good idea to stall the enemy team and avoid fighting until someone has cleared or at least thinned out that wave

everytime you teamfight while the enemy team has a big wave pushing one of your lanes you basically say "if we lose that fight, we lose much more than just the fight" because they'll be in perfect position to fast push towers afterwards

Odds are she can be one of those ppl that will never listen to you. One day you will find out her game play has gotten better due to some stranger magically showing the light on how to play support sona. (ik it has happened to me like 3 times). For the meantime like Kaosu Desu stated just play aram with her.

Well to be honest the support is supposed to do that after the laning phase is over.
