My friend only plays Sona Support

**Disclaimer: I am not trash talking or talking about how angry I am with my friend in any way, shape, or form. I'm just trying to blow off some steam by sharing the frustrations I face in game whenever I play with her. (Just got out of a game where she literally did everything written below and was a huge reason for us losing.) ((The main reason we lost tho was our troll Nasus.)) (((He intentionally fed GP then always split push [and died] )))

She doesn't really play support as a support "should be played" according to the meta.

For example, she doesn't take exhaust. She doesn't buy sightstone. She likes to roam to help all the lanes as opposed to just helping the adc. (she abandons adc sometimes cuz mid is being ganked or something. She's just nice like that)

She just really likes to poke and do damage and just enjoy the game recreationally as opposed to the intense 5v5 team fights strategic win.

She enjoys the game for the game.

...yet she spends most of her time clearing large minion waves as opposed to helping her team in a team-fight. No, she doesn't do this to troll or spite anyone, she just does this because she fears that the large minion wave will push like 3 turrets. Mind you, if she just assisted us in the fight, we could of used her ult to secure the "win" of the mini-battle and then someone ELSE who can actually wave-clear will go clear that huge wave piling up.

Instead we just always die 4v5 (occasionally we win but that's either because we have a good smurf or someone on our team is just fed from he laning phase) and then we end up losing 4 turrets because the enemy team pushed the lane that the fight took place in and the wave of minions that she was trying to clear was too much for her and pushed the lane anyways.

I explained to her that Sona is one of those champs who just CANNOT wave clear a monster wave, but she refuses to listen. And then we lose. Then she says, "let's play another." I mean.. idk lol

Is she playing full offensive Sona? 21-0-9, rushing sheen into lich bane, taking ignite over exhaust (which btw is becoming a meta call now), it sounds like for the most part she's doing fine as that type of Sona. Hell, being able to roam mid successfully is pretty impressive for such a squishy champion to be caught out with.

The turrets she's defending, is it just an outer turret? Try to tell her the value of the outer turret for the outside lanes goes down in priority for protecting if you guys are taking an objective or teamfighting.

I don't understand why people rush lich bane with sona... She get's a lot more buck from getting a death cap first. All her abilities scale from AP most noticeably the movement speed becomes soooo good with that extra AP boost To get in and out of a situation to kill or cause someone to cry.

Does she take any of the supporting items, because that will help her get gold. Also tell her that the big waves are free gold for the carries. And if a wave is pushing to your tower, just take 2 seconds to send someone there because its easier to win towers with all lanes pushing in your favor. Then your friend won't be tempted to push them for you.

You might also want to explain the laning phase to your friend. She's probably just trying to help but it would be easier on everyone if she stuck with you at least until 6 or first dragon.

Recently I got her to start buying item 3303 , but boy her build was far from reasonable before. She would buy a ton of hp and mana pots and a item 1028 and then rush warmogs and trinity force. Never got trinkets.. it was a mess. So yeah, now she is a lot better with her build, but like just last night she built 2 Luden's Echos because she thought the passive stacked. She has been playing League longer than I have and she still forgets about the UNIQUE Passive situation.

And I've told her about carries taking large waves, but she just has the mindset of defend and split push. Not much I can do to change that. She knows the meta, but doesn't necessarily care for it. She just goes Sona support and plays the game the way she wants. Haha.

There's this thing where she just doesn't listen to me at all. Let's say there's 4 guys on her and I tell her not to waste ultimate cuz they have extremely mobile champs and she has like no mana left. What does she do? Ults, ignites, and summoner heals herself. Then dies. She wasted all of those vital things in the same second and still died regardless. That's the other thing, she doesn't take mobile summoner spells which means no flash ults. Which sucks. Oh well lol.

On the bright side, if someone ELSE on my team is nice and asks her to do something, she'll listen to them. I think it's just because we know each other in real life that she knows I won't totally flip out over her doing something dumb as opposed to if someone else she doesn't know would. Idk I just gave up on trying to make her listen to me a long time ago. haha

Well to be honest the support is supposed to do that after the laning phase is over.

She ONLY plays Sona. She will try the occasional Heimerdinger or Vel'Koz mid (which she seems to be better at than support Sona, but she won't believe you for a second if you tried convincing her)

But yeah. She never goes any other support ever. Her match history for the last 20 games is Sona. Lol.

well she is playing the game just to enjoy it and not to get better. You can try to coach her and tell her some hints/techniques and if she builds weirdly ask the reason and then provide a better build that still fills the way she likes to play while providing supportive elements to the team. I play Sona support all the time and i go and wave clear when i see a giant wave and no one is going for it as long as no one is trying to fight

Odds are she can be one of those ppl that will never listen to you. One day you will find out her game play has gotten better due to some stranger magically showing the light on how to play support sona. (ik it has happened to me like 3 times). For the meantime like Kaosu Desu stated just play aram with her.

I mean is there really anything wrong with her build? Granted just because she doesn't buy a sightstone doesn't means she is not warding. While a usually on support champs if she can just buy wards and use them by all means do that! Roaming as a support is usually a good thing mainly because as a support that is your job. Supporting the team. Granted the ADC does need the CS, as well as kills, I persoanlly wouldn't leave my adc till after laning phase! To be fair there is nothing wrong especially with a poke heavy like Sona, to take some damage items! It's really annoying for the enemy team especially early game. I have made people rage quit (according to the enemy team) for being so active. You especially deny CS for the enemy because of your q and auto attack, sooner or later they'll get killed or have to go back. It's not all that bad but as a support I am always thinking of my teammates and know that while I may Ks from my q, aa, or ult. I'm still tryin to give them the kills!

She has gotten a lot better with her build duly because I explained to her that her method of survival was for naught. I.E. she would (rush) buy warmog's because she notices she barely has any health, when what she really needs to be building is armor or MR or even just straight up AP for a better W. She used to not ward at all. Never even considered Sightstone and would always forget to get a trinket ward. I got her into the habit of buying trinkets now, but when it comes to warding tri-bush or river bush, I am going to need to purchase some wards of my own (which draws away from my early game build towards a good adc item)

She will roam at the most awful times. She will see that mid is being pushed hard because their top had killed ours then ran mid to help their mid, so she goes to assist them, all the while I have their adc, support, and jungle raping me in lane. She won't come back to lane until I've died. Again, I have helped her improve her decision making when it comes to this, so she doesn't do this nearly as often as she used to, but from time to time she likes to do it anyways just to be helpful to other lanes while her adc (me most of the time) gets gang banged.

I don't mind her poke, but sometimes she goes way out of position and overextends to poke and then in turn gets punished by an exhaust or a root (or her worse nightmare, blitz Q) and usually ends up dying. She has a very slow reaction time in game and gets hit by most skill shots and misses nearly all ultimates when they are desperately needed and will land them when no one else is around.

She isn't a bad support in terms of damage trade tho and she always likes to heal me even if I have 5 hp pots and 75% of my hp, but some times she just does things that I have no clue why she does them. Lol. Also she likes getting kills so half the games we play she ks's me and I get underfed and its never fun trying to catch back up.

if your support player is concerned about a minion wave taking down many towers, it might be a good idea to stall the enemy team and avoid fighting until someone has cleared or at least thinned out that wave

everytime you teamfight while the enemy team has a big wave pushing one of your lanes you basically say "if we lose that fight, we lose much more than just the fight" because they'll be in perfect position to fast push towers afterwards
