DISCLAIMER 1: I don't want this thread to be derailed into "Lucian's Ultimate is useless, it's so fxcking weak!!!" or things of that nature... please, let's have constructive conversation & a rousing discussion over Lucian's current state of balance. Also, please only players who have significant experience playing -as- or -against- Lucian.

My Observations & Opinions

  1. Lucian is a tad bit too mana-starved.
  • This' problematic as the method in which his damage is brought in-line with many other ADC's (his passive) is tied to ability-casts.
  • This' also problematic due to his kiting-potential being tied to a) casting his W & b) landing his W.
  1. Lucian's early-game feels a bit too weak.
  • Despite decent scaling even from behind, his early trading tends to feel a little too lackluster.
  1. Lucian's mid-game feels powerful (behind or ahead), but his late-game feels a tiny bit beneath the target (behind or ahead).
  • It feels a little like even if you begin to get fed, that you plateau in the mid<>late game.
  1. Lucian's ultimate is a tad bit underwhelming.
  • For how difficult it can be to keep this on-target, the damage-coefficient can feel quite poor (on Champions, not on minions). Even in the ideal scenario where 100% of the ability strikes an enemy champion, it still often feels poor.
  • It feels marginally better when significantly fed, but this feels punishing for games where you are behind.

DISCLAIMER 2: Lucian to me feels fairly well-balanced, an extremely minor buff to mana costs or mana-regeneration may set him right in-line to be perfectly well-balanced.

My Ideas & Suggestions

  1. Q Mana to 40/50/60/70/80 (down from 60/65/70/75/80)
  2. Q AD Scaling to 50/65/80/95/110% (down from 60/75/90/105/120%)
  3. W AD Scaling to 75% (up from 60%)
  4. W AP Scaling to 75% (down from 90%)
  5. W now additionally grants its MS Bonus on striking an enemy Champion
  6. E Cooldown to 14/13/12/11/10 (down from 18/16/14/12/10)
  7. R Cooldown to 90/75/60 (changed from 100/75/50)
  8. R Damage to 45/55/65 (up from 40/50/60)
  9. R AD Scaling to 30% (up from 25%)
  10. R AP Scaling to 15% (up from 10%)
  11. R Total Damage to 1100/1500/1900 (changed from 1040/1500/1980)
  12. R Total Damage AD Scaling to 650/725/800% (changed from 650/750/825%)
  13. R Total Damage AP Scaling to 275/300/325% (changed from 260/300/330%)
  14. Mana Regeneration per Level to .75 (up from .70)

I'd just work on his mana regen and base mana imo.

I've seen TF Lucian happening recently and it did very well. It's like the standard Corki build TF -> BT -> LW. That really helps with the mana problems. I don't know if it makes sense to suggest numbers changes. Riot won't listen to them most likely as they might even choose another way to address them like higher base mana or more mana per level.

Lucian has issues with mana, but his issues extend beyond that to a problem of design versus actual play. Lucien is soundly designed, but does not match the way the game is actually played.

His Q is fine.

His W is problematic. Due to the range, it is used primarily as long range poke. However as designed, he is supposed to hit with it and then use the speed boost to stay in range to continue kiting. In fact, most Lucien players will purposefully HOLD OFF on using W to get in added burst after the enemy leaves AA range. Most of the time it is used, he isn't in range to hit even 1 Autoattack, must less begin a chase. Thus his kit, which needs him to have the speed boost from this skill, is rendered less dangerous by people not wanting to use it that way to try to offset his short range.

His E is an OK gap close or disengage.

R is problematic due to how real people react. Namely, most people can easily walk out of his R. Upon seeing him ult, they will walk, blink/tumble/etc. or flash out of the path, taking only one or two hits. Because it is completely linear and Lucien's movement speed in low, most characters can, if not completely flank him while it goes on, at least maneuver so that they stay out of the ult for the duration even though he can move. The fact that he can move and dash during the ult does almost nothing to help him keep it on target. Compare to MF's ult, which roots her but puts out a hard to dodge cone, which forces the opposition to either rapidly close and escape through the narrow end (If this happens you were doing it wrong) or run far off to the side or back. As long as it is used well, it is very effective at damage and deterrence. With Lucien, you can walk a very small distance to the side and then run directly at him, making it neither good for damage nor deterrence. All in all the ult, while good in theory, in practice is almost worthless.

Lucian has a lot of 1v1 potential

His R does need buffing, but all Riot need to do right now, is work on his base mana. This is because I think that Lucian early-game chugs on mana. I agree 100% on his W changes, however.
