The only skin I'm willing to buy is one of the more expensive ones and even if I bought the $5 option, I'd be 3 RP away from getting it.

Oh I know! They should let you "earn" like 5 RP a week or month just for things like that, happens to my friend every week lol
You can sometimes get small amounts of RP for this by submitting a Support Ticket.
they will make u draw something, draw your fav champ in microsoft paint :P
I've had friends ask for extra IP through support tickets without drawing something :O
