why are there like 7 tanky ap items but like 1 or 2 tanky ad items
no wonder any ap mage can go top tank and do a lot of damage, its not the champions its the items

Because of the way AD scales compared to AP. You can afford to go AD and slot in some bulky items since AD also have things like autos to fall back on. Outside their spell rotation most mages have nothing else.
