There's a difference between flaming, trolling, insulting, and simply telling you you're playing bad
Before I start this. I'm not about to claim I'm a perfect angel. In-fact I have a chat ban currently going because 1 game I did end up running up my mouth a little. Albeit it was a ranked promotional game where 2 people literally decided in the first 5 minutes that we all suck and therefore they ran into the turret literally 20 times and fed 40 kills, 20 each. I said some pretty choice words, and they both reported me for insults.. ok fair enough I did..
But you know what, and I know other people have had this situation happen to them hundreds if not countless of times yourself where you'll simply be trying to tell someone something and they instantly begin to proclaim you're an insulting toxic player.
It seems to me, like the mentality of League community these days is that if you say ANYTHING remotely negative about your team you are instantly a mega toxic player that should be banned irrefutably without question.
I'm here to tell you.. Chill out yourself. You are not amazing. I don't see you in the LCS or even Challenger tier, you have room to grow. Shit, THEY have room to grow still as well. You're nothing special chief, and when someone points out a flaw... *learn, and get better. *
Take my last game for example. I also again, got reported for negative behavior and or insults.
I'm in lane with an Ezreal bottom, and he refuses to poke, has almost virtually no damage, and is getting constantly poked by their own support despite me trying to put a buffer zone between them, and then the few times we get into a few little team scrapes, the Ezreal misses nearly every skill shot every fight bottom in the first 10 minutes.. I'm inclined to believe this player isn't that skilled, or at least, in this game, isn't playing well; Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.
Our Nunu is saying bottom is doing garbage, and I agree, and say our ez isn't doing well against their adc, and that I can't force the lane or do anything of the sort because he's missing most of his skillshots...
This is not "insulting." It may be insulting to YOU, because you think you're all that and a bag of chips, but you're not, and it's not insulting.. It's the fact, and situation of what's going on.
For this comment, my team jumped on me, saying I should stfu and quit being toxic, because how dare I speak ill about a teammate.
Now you can say I shouldn't of said anything.. Fair enough.. More information the better though. Why can't I push the lane? Why are we being pushed back? The reality is because of what I said above.
This is just one of thousands of examples I have in the 4 years of playing League, and I'm sure everyone's come across this as well.
There is a difference...
Non toxic/insulting Example: "This team just isn't good enough to win this match" - Is a statement. Something I've also been reported on. It's taken out of context though, and I really don't wish to explain the 3 minute in-game conversation, so trust me in that I wasn't just blurting it out out of nowhere.
This is not toxic.. it's a statement.. plain and simple, one that is.. well.. true unless we win, then it's false. Either way it's the perceived situation at the time.
Toxic/Insulting: "This team is such trash tier piles, they're beyond worthless"..... I really don't need to explain the difference do I?
It's time the community of league learns the difference between toxic, and just pointing out a perceived notion.
But you know what.. It's fair people don't understand the difference, because often times it can go into toxicity when it was originally never meant too. Often times I see a team gang up on a person who makes a comment about someone else not playing the greatest, and the comment itself wasn't insulting or toxic, except to the player who thinks he's so amazing how dare someone think he sucks.
Those 2 will get into it, and.. of course the person who made the comment is ganged up on by the rest of the team, and by then things have gotten toxic on both sides.
This can be avoided by properly identifying what the comment actually is.... Yes.. Some things are going to be "negative" or "insulting" bad things are.. people showing you your flaws, or saying you're not playing well is going to be insulting to you.. but that doesn't make them toxic, nor does it mean you need to report them because they aren't pretending like you're the most godly player in league..
If they go beyond that and actually start insulting you by saying you're trash tier, and worthless.. well.. now that is worthy of a report.
Parting words....
People who generally jump on the "If you say anything remotely negative you're toxic" mentality tend to also say "don't say anything at all if it isn't nice". The problem is.. pointing out flaws or problems is never going to be happy sunshine and rainbows. It always sucks no matter which way you spin it or how nice you try to be about it.. bottom line is you're pointing out a problem, and in today's society, that's "insulting"..
The only way to get better is by knowing your own personal faults and flaws. You won't know them all, and other people may see what you don't. If someone is pointing out something to you, take it into consideration.. if you keep hearing it.. maybe it's worthy of noting much more strongly.
, I haven't caught any flak for it yet because I have a very good win rate with him at the moment, but I've commented on my teammates and they normally assume its because i'm playing a champion out of lane that i'm even complaining.
