Can someone explain to me....

Why hasn't Riot implemented some form of nonconnect/early dc forgiveness into their ranked system? I just lost a promo series because we had a player not connect to the game for the first 10 minutes. I realize it happens and it probably wasn't that player's fault, but it was obvious he wasn't playing, and the game needs to realize this and simple end without penalty to the other players. If a player hasn't moved/bought by the time minions are fighting in lane, he is obviously afk/dc. Why can't the game recognize this and simply boot people back to Q and treat that player as if he/she had dodged Q. This would save time waiting for the 4v5 20 min surrender and wouldn't cost people ranking for other's connection issue. It seems like a no brainer to me.

'Cause people could and would abuse it.

Agreed.

Its just hard to see the downside of a system that detects dc players and force a reset. You couldnt really abuse it if dc was treated as dodge, and it wouldn't force toxic comments because you cant force a player to dc by flaming them. Once they connect, the chance is gone. You could also make something like allowing pre 20min surrender if a player is dc'd, and in this situation forgive the remaining members. Whatever the case, something needs to be done. And before a new rank season starts. Its too old of a problem no to be fixed already.

The current stance (at least according to S@20 posts) is that Riot knows its wanted, and they do want to put something in, but right now any system they can think of will also encourage flaming a player not doing well on your team to reduce the inevitable loss's LP deduction. They are very wary to do anything that can even slightly encourage toxic behavior.

I've wanted a feature like this for a while.

The system the OP is asking for is for AFK detection that only works in situations where someone on your team doesn't connect at all. It's literally impossible to encourage flaming a player for not doing well with a system that resets a game if someone doesn't connect in the first 5-10 minutes.

How? Refer to above, the suggestion is only for people that never connect to the game.

The only downside to a system like this is that it'd create a lot of wasted time. If you start a game, you have anywhere between 0 seconds to 5 minutes of wait time (ignoring high Diamond/Challenger for now) and then 2-5 minutes in Champion Select. Following that you have 1-2 minutes in the loading screen, and if a change like this were to be implemented it'd add another 5-10 minutes onto that time.

That works out to 3-12 minutes of wasted time that could be raised to 8-22. That's 167% more downtime than the minimum and 83% more than the maximum, which would result in massive timesinks.

Personally I feel like that wasted time would be worth a system like this that works properly, but a lot of people might not agree.
