Why people go AFK?

I would like to know what goes in the minds of those who AFK. Like... What? Why would you do something that you KNOW that will get you punished? Yes, I can't believe that AFK players don't know that they will be punished for this sort of behavior. So, why they do that?

OBS: This question has nothing to do with the recent AFK waves that has come recently on the NA server. Especially since I am from BR.

Because they're not having fun. Consider that playing a game isn't worth valuable time of your life when its not serving its purpose.

I am pretty sure that I am not representative of the typical AFK'er but on the exactly two occasions on which I AFK'd:

  1. I started a game after forgetting that I had company coming over that evening and had to go attend to my guests.
  2. I had a panic attack and fled from the game like a normal person flees an angry bear.

firsr off it's a game so 1. It's not fun anymore. 2. Something comes up so they have to leave. 3. Connection issues 4. Abused 5. Trolling

If you're having a negative experience, such as someone being toxic towards you. The way peoples brains are hardwired to deal with it is to walk away or avoid that negative experience. This usually takes priority over potential consequences, especially in a game where at the time, you don't care.

Psychology ftw.
