@RIOT, please don't ask us for opinions on "rewarding long-term players" again.

RIOT has, in the past couple years, expressed they wanted new ways to "reward longtime players" and "give old players something to do with their IP".

Welp, you had a great opportunity and you completely blew it.

For ages people have asked for a system like the current Mastery system (albeit, a significantly more "long-term" version than the current iteration), and have asked for IP-Bought or Champion Dedication-unlocked recolors (or even full skins) for champions.

RIOT decides to throw up some recolors, and adamantly decides they're going to be RP purchases. Fine, that's your guys' call. Make us have to buy 'em.

But don't ask us what we want to see next time. The request for "veteran player rewards" is a very old one, you guys had a golden opportunity, and opted to waste it. I'm not knocking the art team's talent, they do some really amazing work, but the recolors should not have been rp purchases. There've been several people on the forums recently who have shown that recoloring a skin doesn't take nearly as much as we're being told, and that's why many people in the past have requested recolored skins as a reward for veteran players.

I'm not saying RIOT doesn't deserve to make money. I'm not saying what the artists do isn't worth money. I'm saying the community has, in the past, voiced significant sentiment toward IP-bought or Unlockable recolors specifically as a reward for veteran players, and many times in response to being asked by RIOT what they want to see, and RIOT was not listening apparently.

So, speaking for myself personally, I'd prefer it if RIOT just stayed away from the topic of rewarding veteran players. This recolors decision feels like a giant middle finger and a wasted chance. Maybe you guys will one day do something about making veteran players feel as important to RIOT as new ones, but frankly it doesn't look that way. Honor system is still completely irrelevant, the free RP giveaways of years past are completely gone, the Mastery system allows a player to reach max rank with a champion in not-nearly-enough games, and now recolored skins are going to cost RP. You guys don't actually have an interest in rewarding dedication, it's not terribly cool to pop up once a year or so and talk like you do.

Where is this post coming from? I didn't see anything about veteran rewards on the FAQs.

The subject of rewarding veteran players is like 4 years old, man. If you haven't been following the game (and discussions on the forums) that long, you're not going to know what it's about. Google can help you there if you like, I'm not going to go hunt for a backlog of all the times RIOT has discussed veteran players and the times recolors have been brought up as an answer.

You're welcome to, however. It's honestly not hard to find topics on it.

So, I should assume it came from nowhere, then? This is just something you care about, and you're tying it something completely irrelevant? The recolors concept has been discussed in different contexts, it's not tied to Veteran Players as an idea.

Sure, you can assume whatever you want. If you're not going to do your research I'm not going to stop you from being wrong lol

Believe whatever you want, I really don't care what some random dude with an ego problem thinks of a long-standing discussion he's out of the loop on >.>

You're right, I haven't engaged with "Veteran Benefits" at all as a concept. I think it's irrelevant in the moba genre, but regardless, I HAVE been moderately in the loop on these recolors. I've wanted them for months now, and I've only ever seen them discussed in the context of paying RP for them. The polls they gave out didn't mention veteran rewards, they just asked if you'd feel comfortable paying RP for them. Blucian is super awesome, and I love how bright and polished these recolors are. Getting them made me so happy that I'm defensive over them.

So, not really sure why you're upset about this. It doesn't really seem like giving them to veteran players was ever on the table from my point of view.

See, now, there's a civilized opinionated post, rather than condescending douche-wording. Why couldn't you approach it that way from the get-go?

From your point of view, it hasn't been on the table. That doesn't mean it hasn't. Once again, Google is the answer, but if you're unwilling to Google it, I'm not terribly swayed to waste a bunch of time finding links to pages that you'll probably not bother reading anyway. If you don't wanna believe things have happened that you haven't personally be a part of that's fine, it just seems like an incredibly dangerous way to go through life.

The Chromas are cool, and as someone with a lot of skins I wish they were purchasable with IP. I sincerely doubt I'll pay RP for any of them, but I suppose there's a small chance depending on the effort that gets put into the recolor on some of my favorite skins.

I think it's silly to put a patent on the idea saying that it belongs to veteran players for IP though. And there's also much to be discussed on the value of recolors versus those of us who have already paid a ton of money for skins. Personally I think buying a skin should unlock all the colors for that skin, but that's a different topic.
