What I feel Riot needs to Add in League Right Now

So lately I feel Riot hasn't been doing great at adding new things to League lately. All I ever really feel like they do is either add one of the five champions new champions they will release in the year, do a rework of a champion, bring us a not-as-exciting-as-it-seems mini event, or focus on Esports. Hell, I check their revenue last year and they roughly made $1.6 billion, which is a little more then what Blizzard, one of the best gaming companies if not the best of all time, made that year. If they made that much last year and supposedly that much or more this year, then where is that money being spent? In one of the few things I already listed above? Essentially I don't think they're using their time and effort into other areas and things that we've been asking for years about or stuff that would be nice to have.

However before going on I do feel like I have to say that most of these suggestions are based off of things in Dota 2 AND BEFORE YOU DOWNVOTE THIS TO HELL PLEASE HEAR ME OUT ON MY REASONS! First I just like both games. Most of you may argue that Dota is shit and League is better, and while I have to disagree about Dota being shit, I will agree that League is better in many aspects. Even though I like and play both games I do prefer and play League more over Dota. With that said, however, I do feel like Dota has some features that if implemented into League could make it more enjoyable. I'm not in the slightest saying turn League into Dota but rather League should probably start taking reference from what Dota has and improve upon those things to be better for League.

  1. ** Demo Mode** - Dota does have a pretty nice demo mode for you to try out their "heroes"(champions). I'm not going to praise over it, but it's not that bad of a feature. I actually found myself using it a lot when I wanted to try out another one of the heroes in the game or even try new builds, practice landing abilities or combos, looking at what their cosmetic items look in an actual game, or even just goof around with having free, no cooldown ability spamming. Something like this in League could actually help players learn a champion better and get better at them or try new builds with them without having to resort to practicing on the dumb as shit Co op vs. AI.

  2. Replay System - The Replay system is something that all League players I feel have been asking about for the longest time now. The only thing we have close to this are secondary programs that still do a decent job but I feel could simply be implemented into the League client. At the same time, their are possibilities that some of the recorded games can just become lost or maybe even corrupted. Dota I think actually beat League to the punch on this one I think, considering that a replay feature was probably released with Dota 2 launch in 2013 which by then League still didn't even have one at this point, nor to this current time. It's finally time we got a system where we can watch replays of our games, possibly in the client and like Dota can save the ones we like the most and share them with our friends.

  3. Different looking maps and announcers - Remember way back in the early days of League, for those who were playing at that time, when Riot changed the map to look like it had snow on it or when they changed it to be Halloween themed? Or even more recently with the Bilgewater event last year when we got Murder Bridge on ARAM and the option to have Gangplank as the announcer? Why the hell does Riot not bring this for us to be buying? I mean I feel like this is a great concept. Again this is based off of Dota but I think its one of the best features in the game for that. And so just think about it in League: One game your on Summoner"s Rift, the next you could be in that custom sent Piltover map talked about a while back or a Freljord theme Summoner's Rift or a Noxus themed or just any other places in the world of League. Even more so you could get some of your favorite champions being the annoucer. Gangplank has already proven himself so why not say Aurelion Sol or even Kled? I'd loved to hear them as announcers. However if I remember correctly, a youtuber by the name of Necrit talked about how Riot wanted to keep the look of Summoner's Rift as recognizable to League on Twitch so they don't go for the alternate looking maps. I'm sorry but that's a stupid thing to say. Having the same looking map to me just gets old. And more so I think the art style of the whole game is unique enough to recognize it as League, not just the same looking map in general.

  4. Better Coop vs AI - (This is going to be the last I reference Dota btw) League's current AI is just a joke. I mean OK the very easy and beginner bots are alright for new comers but for the rest of us intermediate is the highest difficulty we have. And even then it's not that hard. It doesn't ever feel like a challenge to play against them, only on the occasion of people trolling in it and actually causing you to lose. Dota's on the other hand can be as simple as you want to down right as brutal as possible, really giving you a challenge and honing your skills against those certain types of match ups. Even more, and this is more personal preference, they should try adding in a bot at higher levels that actually acts as a jungler, more or less teaching you how to deal with ganks instead of you going top in a 2v1, especially with a champion you're still learning.

  5. An Updated Map Already (The map showing the world of League, not the actual map in game) - This has bothered me for a while now but it's roughly been, what, three or five years since Riot said they were updating the map? It shouldn't take this long to change the look of a fantasy world. The current map is just so old and out of date that it's almost painful for me to look at. Seriously Riot, just take a few people from you art and lore department, set them aside from their work for a small bit, like a month or two at most and just update the damn map already.

  6. An Upgraded Tutorial - Face it, the current one is just terrible. Ashe with Thornmail. That I think says it all. On top of that I don't ever feel like it goes over everything that it should, like how to last hit or the importance of objectives. Most of this I feel is ignored and all of it needs to be properly redone. Again this game has been out for roughly seven years and we still have this to deal with.

And those are just some of the things that I would like Riot actually spend some time on and implement into League, especially the replay system, updated map and better tutorial being the top priorities. Again please don't downvote this because I'm recommending some things from Dota into League. If anything these are minor things I'm asking for and you compare the things like the Coop, Dota's is just better then Leagues at the moment. I'm just suggesting these because I feel like they can help the game for both veterans and new comers dramatically. Do you agree with what I suggest? On some things? Completely disagree? What are your thoughts?

Regarding point 2, Riot made it very clear that they're looking at ways to implement a replay system. In the meantime, there are several consistent services that can do this for you. Replay.GG and Skin Spotlights Replays can provide you with spectator mode replays that you can review later.

Regarding point 4, it's actually pretty freaking hard to implement a jungler in Co-Op vs. AI. For starters, I can imagine a player literally just camping an AI jungler and repeatedly killing it at level 1, etc. But Riot has made significant strides towards more intelligent AI bots, and you'll see them flash ulting and doing some pretty flashy plays. You won't see them playing at a Challenger level, but they've definitely come a long way since 2013.

Regarding point 5, the Summoner's Rift map was rolled out to PBE in mid-2014. This brings it to about a bit over two years since the map received a comprehensive visual update. Additionally, I think you're oversimplifying these visual updates; something on that magnitude would likely require much more than the two months that you've slated for a project that would again revamp the way that Summoners see every aspect of the Rift.

I'm not going to comment on Sandbox mode (1), maps and announcers (3), or an updated tutorial (6) right now, unless anyone had any specific questions or concerns with regards to them. I'll be adding my own thoughts in a separate thread later with the speed and direction I think Riot has been moving and what they can do moving forward.

lol ok so to answer your 6 points...

  1. Free Champion Rotation... Yea You can't always play every champion but they all come around at some time or another and it keeps everything fresh for new players. It's also Riot's incentive to buy the champion. Think about it. You don't have a champion. And it just went off rotation but you watch videos and stuff and really want the champion. Smart people will wait for the next rotation to make sure they like it. Others will just buy it out of curiosity. I don't think a demo system would make much sense for Rioters to do. Loss of money. Loss of variety. Not much reason to have a demo. If you play a few games a day for a week, you should have around 3k+ ip. 2 weeks to get the "high teir" (newer) champions. Rotating Champions usually pop up once every month and a half. Sometimes more sometimes less.

  2. Would be nice to have a replay system sure. But with the current client, I'd be scared to implement anything on it. Maybe when the new client comes out. Just a side note but replay systems also end up costing a lot of memory. Which is no fun for anyone that doesn't want it.

  3. Weekend. Rotating game mode...

  4. I think the co-op vs ai does what it aims to do. Makes an easy environment where new players can learn champion abilities and practice things like farming and just learning the map. I'd say the only thing that needs updating is the AI for Reworked Champs. Because they still play like how they used to before their rework. Taric and Ryze are hilarious to play against/with haha!

  5. The graphics of the map were upgraded not too long ago. Quite a few jungle changes too. What kind of "Upgraded" map were you hopeing for? I think its a great map for a MOBA. Do you want climbable walls or something???

  6. The tutorial teaches you how to play. Not how to win. Why would the tutorial teach people to last hit when that isn't a game mechanic. That is a player made mechanic. We, as players, decided its easier and more efficient to last hit. Also building Thornmail. We, as players, decide what is good to build on a certain champ. Plus. Tank Ashe is hilarious!

Anyways. I'm not shaming you for the post. But these "problems" you listed aren't really problems. These are all just flashy things that appeal to a small audience. I would much rather see the Yorik Rework or the Yasuo Nerf before any of these things are even thought about. Just giving you my two cents.
