Ranked Ladder Suggestion [Specifically for Solo/Duo Queue]

With Master Tier being introduced I was thinking of a way to tweak the ranking system and how you climb since the Master Tier is a revert to the elo system. So the Tiers will still be Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Challenger with Master and Challenger being identical to how they work, the changes I will suggest will involve the other tiers.

  1. The 5 divisions will be removed completely, same with the promo series besides for Diamond having a best of 5 to get into Masters.

  2. Each Tier will have League Points from 0 to 100 once you go past 100 LP you reset back to 0, 1, or 2 LP in the next tier i.e. Bronze to Silver you lose 100 LP but advance to the next tier, until you get to Diamond tier then at 100 LP you advance to a best of five promotional series to Master Tier then gain 100 LP after your promos to prevent immediate demotions back to Diamond tier.

  3. Wins will grant you 2 LP and Loses will grant you -1 LP meaning if you remain having an equal or positive win ratio you will eventually get to Diamond. Alternate option to point 3: Wins/Losses will grant +/- 5 LP no matter what, Loss Forgiven will neutralize this of course.

  4. Duo partners may only be within 100 LP of each other, so a Bronze 60 may barely duo with a Silver 40, but a Bronze 60 cannot duo with a Silver 45. This is to prevent a sense of elo boosting through duo queuing of high tier players helping out low tier players which ruins other people's games mostly it is not fun playing against a high tier player when you are only mid tier and get stomped by them and to prevent frustrations on the team with the low tier players potentially feeding or not knowing what to do in a mid tier environment.

  5. There is a bottom side though for match making isn't hidden from you and you know who you play against where if you are Bronze with 0 LP and lose a game you are now Bronze with~~ -1 LP or~~ -5 LP with the alternate suggestion

  6. If you have 0 LP and in Gold and lose a game you go down to Silver 100 LP (105 LP is 5 LP in the next tier)

  7. When you are 100 LP Diamond Tier your next game is your first game for your best of five for Master Tier.

  8. Master Tier, once you get promoted from Diamond, you start with 100 LP so you are not immediately demoted to Diamond after just beating your promos.

  9. Master Tier is when you truly get into ranked play where your wins / loses will grant/lose around 8-15 LP per game (as it does now) and you see who can get the highest LP to be considered #1 in your region; Challenger being on a 24 hour cycle to see who is the top 200 of your region.

  10. The start of each new season will reset your LP to 0 of your current tier i.e. Gold 25 LP will be Gold 0 LP in the new season, wins and loses will also reset to 0 for that fresh new start to the season, and soft resets to 0 LP of your current tier will allow you to roughly play with the same types of players you have been playing with last season as the new season while not destroying your progress to become truly ranked. Master Tier will reset everyone to 100 LP that are already in Master Tier even if you lie between 0 and 100 LP of Master Tier.

Overall, I think this will have players really feel like they need to master the game to get into Master Tier with a minimum of 250 100 games if you win every single game and have ranked into a true competitive atmosphere seeing as players must actually play the game to get ranked, but still rewarding players while they make their way to the true competition and where the games begin.

Your idea sounds nice. It would remove much of the clutter of the current system where LP loss/gain can feel random. The major flaw that I see is allowing people to slowly crawl upwards even if they have an even win/loss ratio. As the current system works, LP and MMR are not directly related, and, in my opinion, Leagues should be representative of skill not time put into the game. If I play at a silver MMR then I should be silver. If there is a way to be diamond while playing at a silver MMR, then it would devoid the Diamond tier of it's current prestige (Only the top 1.9% have the honor to be there.) If a person is going even, then he/she has theoretically found his/her level of play, so tier movement should stop.

If that sounded a bit blunt, sorry.

I do like the idea of removing promotion series except for entering professional play. Promotional series only cause stress and can build up a MMR and LP diffrence (Bronze facing low gold or worse).

The point of this system though is to try to get the player to master the game, and then in Master Tier is where your skill is properly judged since the LP gains and losses are identical to elo/your matchmaking rating--- your matchmaking rating outside of master tier is your the system trying its best to match you to the same tier and LP that you have so if you are silver 43LP it will try to find 9 other silver 43LP players--- dropping and entering tiers will no longer be a hastle, except for enter master tier, leaving master tier to diamond is easy to do since 1 lost at 0 LP in masters will demote you to 100 LP diamond to play your best of 5 again

i guess a second option is have +/- 5 LP for your wins/loses --- same thing though you can go negative LP in bronze, you go from 0-100 LP for each tier of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Diamond is best of 5 to Master Tier and Masters starts you at 100 LP but your LP gain/loss is more than double than what it used to be (compared to the 5 gain/loss LP), but the LP do fluctuate in Master Tier because eventually player base thins out a lot and match making gets less and less accurate so if you are at a much higher LP against people with lower LP you will get something like 8 LP but if the lower LP players beat you they can get 15 LP since the according to the LP system you should be the better player and lost so you suffer more and you should be the worse player but won so you get a greater reward

also- for duo partners i think duo partners should only be allowed to duo if they are within 100 LP of each other so Bronze 60 can duo with a silver 40 barely but a bronze 60 cannot duo with a silver 45 to avoid both elo boosting through duo queuing and so that high silver tier players and gold players arent playing with a bronze player to put them at a disadvantage

I really don't think the other tiers should be reduced to mere "grind divisions". I mean, isn't that the point of summoner levels and then grinding to level 30 to even play ranked?

i did make the alternative of +/- 5 LP for wins/losses and just soft resets to 0 LP in your tier that you ended in the previous season (100 LP in Master Tier) at the start of every new season, because you did earn your way to that tier already, and if you didnt like you got elo boosted or something then you get demoted to other tiers (or face potential bans if you got caught being elo boosted or doing elo boosting) Master Tier LP gains will still be completely different to the other 5 tiers of course

overall though, i want to remove frustrations of promo series, (besides for diamond to masters so that it is more earned getting into that tier) and set up a system that players can actually know who they are playing with and against and not be in gold and playing against platinum or be gold and playing with/ against silvers- so with 5 LP gains and 5 LP losses every game and having smooth tier advances and tier demotions will prevent the player from not knowing where they lie in the standings and the player may know EXACTLY who they are playing against and playing with so that being gold 50 means you are playing with/against 9 other players who are or close to being gold 50 as well (give or take 5 or more LP depending how thin or dense the population is for that skill level and is currently queued up)

the original idea of giving more LP for wins and losing less LP for losses was that players dont feel so bad about losing a game, but in hind sight i guess it isnt the greatest idea since it leads to a false sense of accomplishment like how the current league system works (Master Tier is a step in the right direction)

I like the removal of promotionals, with only divisionals. Removing all promotion series is certainly viable, but you would need to lower lp gains to maintain the average skill level per league.

I feel that lp gains should be reduced, but with a very, very low mmr for your league you should lose more than you gain.

It seems that you feel that most players should be in master tier, and I feel that the master teir is simply the pool from which challenger players are drawn/

The idea is that while ranking to masters matchmaking will pair you up to your tier and LP so it will try to match you up with 9 other gold 52 LP players the best it can if you are gold at 52LP, if it cannot find 9-52lp gold players it will move to 51 and 53, then 50 and 54 etc to gather players togather- this is so that your ranking isnt hidden from you but getting to masters is a little grindy for you have to earn masters as in making sure you have enough games played to properly be in ranked play- because just getting to level 30 teaches you the basics, so to properly play competitively you should have the games played to do so , so having 250 games minimum if you are really good and be undefeated for 250 games, but 100s to 1000s of games played in league should happen to be competitive, there will be players still that cannot get out of silver and bronze, and people who are bronze negative scores still but that is because there are faker level players and players who are the polar opposite of faker

masters will be there for being competitive and having elo and properly assessing your skill level- most importantly i want to remove most promos except for diamond to masters and get rid of the divisions and get rid of sitting in a tier when you dont deserve to be their by losing a bunch of games in, mostly, division 5--- also showing your elo, your elo is more defined in masters, but showing the player a better way of where they actually lie instead of the system lying to them of where they lie to give them a false sense of accomplishment
