why are turrets so useless now

YoungFarmer··53 votes·4,361 views

people can dive me and tank like 20 shots and not die its kind of un-fun.

Edit: I have heard rumours that when you are losing lane you sit and farm under turret, I have realized that you can't do that when a liss can't ult you and burst you down while hiding underturret

I'd rather have strong turrets and weak minions. These days, you're better hiding among a swarm of minions than you are hugging a turret.

Unless youre playing against a singed with ghost

BLU Medic2 votes

That's an oddly specific scenario...

doiminat0r36001 votes

because singed without ghost is a big downfall next to a singed with ghost

Cause then they couldn't keep their shitty lasers if they had other towers being so stronk. Srsly I rather old towers. Fuck those lasers

junglerboy1614 votes

Now, if the Lasers bounced between minions that would be something else (Because the whole point is seemingly to prevent minion waves from killing inhib towers on their own), but as it stands, it takes it twice as long to kill anything that isn't a siege minion.

Baron of Bread2 votes

The idea they had here was that the lasers would allow people to stop split pushers that were good duelists without having a better duelist.

junglerboy161 votes

Well it kind of fails at that, since most of those "good duelists" who would tower dive and then take out the tower kill you before the damage ramps up to any reasonable amount, even through the slow and damage reduction.

Baron of Bread1 votes

I am not going to say that the lasers work well, but they have helped me out in the past. They could use a buff, but I think the idea of it is you still need someone who is an okay duelist otherwise split pushing would be useless.

If turrets start doing damage then assassins might have to think twice before they dive you Zed Katarina Leblanc so yeah never gonna happen

Exhausted and dashed with atleast 3 shots left to kill

I've been killed by a Talon with a tenth of his hp left, and then he walked off 4 tower shots. No tanky items or anything.

I feel you but if towers were any stronger, games would last 50 minutes each.

The current shield bullshit ain't better. (Playing since June 2010; have seen a few turret changes)

Games already last 50 minute each because of riots ner- I mean LCSBigPlays buffs to just about everything.

Soda Popkillski3 votes

They just want assasins and other bursty mid laners to dominate the meta.

But seriously though the turrets should at least have some scaling to the late-game.

Rogue Revenant3 votes

I hate how hard the shield turrets got nerfed. Nerfing them a little was good a probably even healthy for the game to some extent but now it's literally one hit to get rid of the shield. It used to feel like a risk when I had to get in to hit the turret enough to bring down the shield to then weaken their team defenses... now it just feels like an auto attack. It's so incredibly weak it practically isn't there anymore.

What is even more pathetic is that they STILL feel stronger than the inhib "laser" turrets. The laser is only really annoying because it seems to leash you for an incredibly long range. Other than that, it never feels too strong.

Xx420n0sc0p3sxX2 votes

Have you played DotA 2? The turrets deal like 70 damage per shot, and the fountain takes like 7 seconds to kill a squishy.

You get like 3 man dived at level 3 if you don't have good cc.

junglerboy163 votes

they also fire faster, and don't aggro onto heroes unless you auto attack another hero. DotA 2 towers are also balanced around that and generally seem more durable.

alagore3 votes

Except in dota 2, towers attack faster, and early on, the amount of hp people have is lower.

Silents4292 votes

They just need penetration or a faster attack speed. Or they need to adjust it so instead of picking a random champion to target it targets the one doing most of the damage to you.

"Yes turret that Cho Gath that silenced me was annoying but help me kill this fucking Riven!"

Seviang2 votes

Turrets are plenty strong. Botched turret dives are the #1 way solo queue games get thrown in the early game.

Xion Dominagus2 votes

Turrets only get buffed when Master Yi is in the Meta, people stop playing him, and they stealth-nerf them. Nuff said.

Me: Hey what else do I need to know about HotS? Friend: Turrets are generally weaker than in LoL. Me: Literally impossible.

True story. After level four turrets might as well stop firing at champions. They don't even give the illusion of safety anymore. ~Uiru

In HotS turrets do even less damage to people and minions. Oh, and they have limited ammo. That's right. They shoot like 20 shots and then they're done. Its pretty pathetic.

I feel like the turrets are beings who after being destroyed countless times, don't care about anything anymore, especially the life of a champion. It slowly charges each shot without a worry in the world. If you die trying to fight under it, so what? If it actually manages to help, whoop dee do.

The answer, of course, is to stay out from under your tower with divable or snipable amounts of hp and to lock down any tank who tries to open up the tower and those under it to being attacked. That sad part is, in certain situations (Zed Fizz ), this is easier said than done. Even doing the second thing I mentioned may lead to the tank flashing away while your team is killed under their own tower or the tower is destroyed.

But tanks are tanks. They might take a lot of shots, but they won't likely do much in a tower dive on their own. Not that standing under a tower for a full blown minute at half build is okay.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

I still don't get why they got rid of the mid turret shield, then left a useless amount of shield on the top and bot turrets what is that even for? 2 stray melee minions who made it with in striking range?

SmknWdl1 votes

I agree. I have a basic strategy as yasuo mid, and 90% of the time it gets me first kill in lane when I do it right. It involves poking down the enemy, then hard pushing to turret and hitting 6 first, then diving under turret. If i pull it off, about 95% of the time i get out alive. So yes, i think turrets are very weak, because i see the easiness to tower dive right now. And yes, I'm saying that they need a buff. Maybe not a range buff, but either an attack speed buff or an attack damage buff. Probably attack speed.

Lucifer1 votes

Imo the solution is to have turrets do % health (increasing with each hit) rather than a flat amount of damage. Right now tanks don't give a fuck about turrets and just sit under them for a minute.

So, you're suggesting pantheon buffs? I approve.

It's honestly only 25% bonus health. It's a little overrated The most bonus health you'll see from a cinderhulk is only about as much as the old warmogs. It's biggest boon is it's cost-efficiency, and it's synergy with Sion, that's all

Silents4291 votes

The praise doesn't come from the extra health it comes from shifting an entire class into usefulness.

Tanks get power sooner and aren't as useless anymore, and can actually tank now.

I always found top lane to be the worst for this shit, but maybe it isn't.

Like, if your enemy is Riven, you're getting dived if you die once.

If I'm Vlad, I'll whittle the enemy down and dive them 90% of games for a free kill.

Fuck top lane mang

Its because the distance turret-to-turret in top-lane is larger than mid-lane, else it'd happen midlane more too. It doesn't happen as often bot-lane because its two people to lock you down under the turret.

What if Inhibitor turrets had shields on them and gave the shields to champions as well, albeit at a smaller amount, and the two news turrets each had a stronger shield, gave the shield to champions, and gave each other a shield. So then the way this could be balanced is that when one nexus turret goes down, the other turret loses the shield that it was given from the second turret. Could this be a nice buff or is it useless? I guess the laser turrets could be given more damage at the start but take a bit longer, maybe 0.2 seconds longer, to get fully wound up.

BLU Medic1 votes

I just watched a featured match, red team annihilated blue team, and blue team couldn't even use the safety of their towers. I watched a LeBlanc with no real magic resist or health or armour or anything messing around under an enemy turret for a good 5 seconds and still getting the kill.

Jamnon1 votes

Riot is happy with them and feels they are fine and thus (sadly) wont change them likely in the near future.

They are however appreciative of the feedback.

(I agree with you and think it is a stupid change).
