Hey, all.

I see a lot of people looking for a way to honor Dyrus' long league career now that he is retiring. I think that it might be fitting add a small reference to him in-game via one of his favorite items to build: http://i.imgur.com/PJguk2q.png

There is precedent for players/rioters being honored by having items named after them, such as the case of Athene's Unholy Grail and Guinsoo's Rageblade.

There is strong precedence for honoring players in this manner (Athene's). I think it is important for Riot to continue to honor the people that contribute to their success. Doing so shows that they have a respect for their community and want to preserve their history.

naming of Athene's wasn't out of honoring of the player, it's because the player reached 5,000 friend referrals which grants his name on an item. not the same bro

Sure, but the way people are acting, it's more of an obsession. I see "Dyrus this" and "Dyrus that" threads every day -- and more than just a few. Though, I guess this is the kind of mentality that comes with watching "esports," so I'm not really all that surprised.

Ohmwrecker was for a guy who believed in Riot when they were nothing and helped make them who they are now so he got his own item.

Other than that, I personally don't know Dyrus (other than his Maokai and being camped) A custom item, reference, tends to be for very special people that have made an impact on league.

Ohmwrecker - Helped make League what it is now Brolaf - Custom quote for a dying kid who loved Olaf. (There's one more that I can't remember)

I think yes. He is one of the players who from the very beginning helped the game, especially the competitive scene, become what it is today. Not only for being a great player, but also a honorable sportsman. His contributions have been invaluable, and he deserves to be remembered in such a way for everything he has done.

From his performances on 5 World Championships to his successful channel, from the improvised Gangplank jungle to the Singed laugh spam; he has made a huge impact on the game during all those years.

Dyrus is literally one of the reasons that League is what it is today. He's not just "any pro player", he's like the ORIGINAL pro player. Guy has been playing professionally since Season 1. I would understand this argument against someone like LemonNation (no offense, love Lemon) but Dyrus definitely has made an impact on the game, both in providing some of the original streaming/gameplay commentary and also one of the first pro players. Having made it this far, I feel like he deserves some sort of recognition.

well, there had been quite a lot of players retired already that had a huge impact - if they would want to do that for every player they had to add tons of items at some point (missaya´s hourglass, chaoxblade, LamiaScale, Genja´s Blade, ...). I´m not entirly opposed, but i wouldn´t want to choose which player is worthy of getting an item and which isn´t...

This is true, but Dyrus had quite a record. Very few, if any (I think there are 1-2 others) can boast about being at every single world's as a player.

Yes, Dyru's. It is a reference to the player Dyrus, and the slight name alteration is intentional. I think that Dyru's reads slightly better than Dyrus's or Dyrus'. I don't think that there will be any confusion that this is referring to Dyrus.

Dyrus = an honored LCS player. Dyru = a mythical warrior king of a now sunken island in the Conqueror's sea.

To be honest a reference in an item description sounds a lot easier to implement than some of the other suggestions ( a whole skin!)

I love this suggestion, but I don't think a skin to one of the best known league players is outrageous. Dyrus is one of the few players (if not the only) to appear in the World Championships all five years. I know people who don't follow e-sports who at least recognize the name when they here it and can match it to the game.

Don't get me wrong I'd love dyrus to get a skin too, but think of the outcry that other people's favorite retirees don't have their own skins.... think of the headache that would cause riot.

This was about Oddone's Maokai in response to the headache you mentioned Riot would have when retirees have community-demanded skins...even though I'd love the General to have a skin for his favorite champion.
