Deactivating Rare Skin Codes did more harm than good.

HEAR ME OUT HERE.

Idgaf if I get scammed if I try to buy a code off something as unmoderated as Ebay. I deserve to get scammed if I try to get the codes that way. On the other hand, sites like Ace Skins and LoL Skin shop were legit af. They usually even sponsored and/or supplied numerous Pro/Semi-Pro Streams and Twitter accounts that would give them away to followers and subscribers. This was great for both stream interactivity, and increasing stream viewers.

As soon as Riot deactivated the Rare Skin codes probably 1/3rd of them switched to Tutoring services. The other 2/3rds moved on to making money from Elo Boosting and selling scripts. Both against ToS. Both triggered by the removal of their former revenue stream.

Pretty sure it was more like $100 on Ace Skins which was pretty f*cking legit at the time and people generally accepted that as a fair value for something that they couldn't otherwise get.

Ace Skins and a few others actually had really good reputations.

Ace Skins used to do weekly giveaways and everything. Literally 'Like us on facebook and follow us on twitter' = 2 lucky f*ckers getting super rare skins once a week.

It was actually legit. They verified that the codes worked, what servers they'd been used on. Everything. And they were reasonably priced. I think it was something like $25 or $50 for Pax Sivir. I'd give my left nut for that skin. But I got Riot Graves from a stream giveaway that was sponsored by Ace Skins.

It was actually a pretty big thing for the community.
