What's the point?

I am genuinely curious, what's the point of smurf accounts? I have bought skins, champs, runes, rune pages, etc. on my main account, why would I want to put time in anywhere else? I guess the idea of it doesn't make much sense to me, but I have only been playing for a little over 2 months. The only reason I could think of is like, for instance, when I bought Lee Sin. He was difficult to play, even though I played a lot of high skill cap champs already, I struggled with his mechanics for awhile. While struggling, naturally I had some horrific games that did not end well for my team and I. I thought about creating a new account, working up to the IP amount Lee Sin cost, learning him really well then stop playing that account until I wanted to learn another char. So, can somebody tell me if that's the real reason why? Because I noticed so many streamers have like hundreds of accounts in Plat, Diamond, Challenger and Masters, but for what? Thanks ahead of time.

I believe the reason why is individual to each player. The idea of practicing against players of a lower ELO so that you can gradually improve with that champion is perhaps one of the few good reasons people have for creating a smurf account. An even rarer one could be to ask as a coach in game to others to help improve their ELO through communication of tactics and strategy in-game. Streamers may have more than one account as they don't wish others to know their streamer identity during EVERY match that they play as it affects the way that others play against them.

Unfortunately, I believe the other reasons for smurf accounts are far more frequent. Some players feel the need to play against others of a lesser skill to inflate their own ego (rather than competing against others of a similar skill level). Others dislike playing against certain champions and use a smurf account as those champions are picked far less often by newer players (due to cost or required skill level to do well).

Every person's reason is their own. I myself cannot see me making a smurf account in the foreseeable future, but you never know. I think it's best to keep an open mind on the subject but make sure that if you do have multiple accounts, that you create/maintain them for the right reasons.
