Just a hypothetical, I was pondering the notion of a single damage stat that all characters scale off of equally and thinking about having to deal with crazy shit like Zhonyas on a Marksmen or Black Cleaver on a DoT mage like Cass.

Back in the first days of league of legend almost every ability on any champion scaled out of ap , that its the main reason why abillity power is called abillity power and not magic power.

This depends. Does that mean buying AP raises your auto attacks and AD scaling abilities? How much? If it's 1 for 1 then pretty much EVERY AD champ is insanely broken, since AD is normally harder to buy due to price but AP can easily reach 600+ in a few items. You wouldn't NEED crit if your attacks all do 700+ damage.
and 
Assuming their mixed scalings both stayed and got to benefit from the full AD and AP items, these two would be CRAZY OP.
