A New Way to Play Naut a.k.a Juggernautilus
Let's talk about the premise for this briefly. Nautilus has been, in the recent meta, relegated to a support rather than a jungler and a top laner like he used to be. When I saw the new Juggernaut items in the late season 5 however, I saw the opportunity for him to become a force to be reckoned with in the top lane. With a great passive for last hitting, large anounts of tankiness and trading potential, as well as HUGE damage with this new build, I could see him becoming a menace in the top lane.
To start off let's talk about runes:
Reds: flat ad - adding to your empowered auto attack, this is great for csing and trading as your abilities won't do much
Yellows: Armor - no explanation needed
Blues: Mr, Armor, Health, or Attack Speed - The attack speed is if You know how to snowball your lane and plan to go more offensive. Quints: AD, Armor, or health.
Masteries: I go 12/0/18 taking Grasp of the Undying. in the ferocity tree, take Fury, Feast, Natural Talent, and Oppressor in the resolve tree, take Unyielding, Tough Skin, Veteran's Scars, Insight, Swiftness, and Grasp of the Undying
Items:
For first Item, I go Titanic Hydra
. Nautilus is a tank and a submarine so the name fits in multiple ways. This Item not only passively empowers your autos but the active is a free auto reset that you can use after your initial auto + w reset combo making it a three hitter. this also makes the grasp of the undying proc hit harder as well as give you some waveclear. For boots, you have three choices Mercury's Treads
for mr and tenacity, Ninja Tabi
for the armour and basic attack damage reduction, and (if you are very ahead) berserker's greaves
for more autos. The second item I take is usually Dead Man's Plate
or Sunfire Cape
for the armour and health. Next I tend to take Sterak's Gage
for the health and damage buff but this is interchangeable with Randuin's Omen
or Righteous Glory
or Banshee's Veil
. Fifth is situational but if you are ahead I would take Trinity Force
. The synergy with your w auto reset/q+passive proc gives you huge burst for the three-hit combo. However, You may want to buy a Frozen Fist
instead if you need more armour and cdr, Warmogs
for more Health, or Frozen Mallet
. The final Item is situational, and I normally go for a health/defense Item last, normally I pick Ohmwrecker
, Locket of the Iron Solari
, Thornmail
, or Frozen Heart
.
Playstyle: For playstyle, You want to be aggressive in lane whenever your w is off cooldown. Your Passive proc and w reset deals A LOT of damage and the shield makes any punishment difficult. Use q sparingly and only if you intend to secure the kill or the try to run away after what tiny amount of damage they poke you with. However, there are some champions you DO NOT AT ANY COST ENGAGE.
Do not engage -
Aatrox
Teemo (at early levels)
Trundle
Quinn
Wukong (unless they are behind)
Renekton (at early levels)
Olaf
You will crush -
Vladimir
Fiora
Gnar (in the early game, late game he will be too slippery)
Irelia (early game, if she builds sustain it depends)
Mordekaiser (you have so much cc and you outdamage him early-mid game unless he has his dragon)
Tryndamere (If you trade quickly and cc properly)
Riven (again, if you play your cards right)
