Taliyah seems a little weak on release

Bloodsoaked Eve·5/20/2016, 1:46:24 AM·21 votes·3,787 views

While she has a solid late game and some pretty decent farming ability, I found that her early damage is lacking and her w is hard to land with the delay. I am ok at predicting the dash for the e but damn is it annoying when I have to wait for 30 minutes to be useful. And I know I need to "git gud" I main top and jg not mid and I am trying to learn since ryze, my second most played, is an ok mid laner now.

That and alost every game I get some early game monster trying to distort her way up my asshole. I don't want much maybe +10-20 base damage on q and a faster time for the w to finish priming

I think she does better up top, but she's still really weak early. And a lot of common top laners would probably be able to ignore her poke, unlike a lot of ranged champs that would be put up there.

I think if they changed Worked Ground to be less punishing it would help a lot.

Thats what people said about Jhin. But he only felt underpowered because people didnt know how to play him. Its the same thing. She will be broken in a bit, I promise

Taliyah's W isn't cast and release as I stated long time ago that's taliyah's only problem.

I think the main issue is a matter of perception. Most if not all Riot mages are braindead easy to play and stomp with. Lots of point & click spells that do crap tons of aoe damage. Never played Brand before? Np, you will most likely end 15/6/12 anyway and score 2 quadrakills.

So when you release a mage that takes a bit more finesse and skills to play and doesn't ace the enemy team every time she breathes, it feels awkward.

she feels very weak i mean anivia is also a control mage isnt she? i mean she has tons of DPS plus a good burst spell and also can make a wall while the new girl just sorta does "ok" damage and her traps arent that good without pushing someone on them

Don't ask for buffs or nerfs until at least 5 days into her release. We don't want a new ekko on our hands

Here's things I think would make good changes to Taliyah, in no special order:

  • I think Worked Ground needs to be a smaller area and/or last a shorter timespan so you aren't fucking over your own damage potential so much.

  • Maybe have Worked Ground reduce Q's cooldown so it transforms into a spammable poke skill instead of a burst machine gun on Worked Ground.

  • Add a slow to Q to make landing the extra shots easier.

  • Personally I'd also love to be able to manually fire off the five shots to change direction if needed.

  • Longer range on the stone field, it's practically melee range right now and that's just silly.

i haven't read very much here, but i felt the need to agree and disagree everywhere my share of opinion i would naturally do so...

i'm a support main and for those who don't realize, Taliyah's second position of choice is support..

now i'm going to give it right off the back since i'm a very blunt person... "Taliyah Sucks"... now slow down, i don't hate the character i actually have more to say than this.

Taliyah is the first character ever released in LoL that i have felt a deep ( mind you more than just partial ) relativity or connection with.

i say this to say that the way Taliyah uses her powers is much the same way i think i would opt to use her powers if i had them.. i don't think i would have many abilities unlike or identically the same...

... so i love Taliyah... and yes she does suck... but i want to point out some things the community should take to understand about this character ( and for this.. many other - if not all characters) in this game..

i understand now that Riot is more obsessed with making original character designs for champions than they are concerned with any other aspect of the game.

if Riot plans a character they want to exist in Runeterra, they don't really care if that champ even breaks the game or is op or anything so long as they don't get way too many complaints to focus on other things.

they don't care. not really no.

they just want us to shut up and play, especially the higher ranking players. (and rightfully so now that i understand).

Taliyah is an archetype trope + complimentary abilities - just like every other champ in the game.

they didn't design any of these champions with us in mind, they designed these champions for us to collect them because Riot knows they can't please everyone.

But they've pleased me with Taliyah.

Taliyah sucks, she's garbage. no lie.. however there's beauty in her design. and i see it.

Taliyah does not perform well in lag or lag storms, No.

Taliyah's abilities are highly technical and contribute toward a number of her other WEAKNESSES, Yes.

Taliyah is squishy in spite of having high HP scores (which is amazingly pointless, because she's a touch girl who can't take a lot - sexist wtf lols), Yes.

Taliyah does POOR damage despite having amazing ability power (de ja vu another one of these fake good attribute things wow), Yes.

Taliyah has fewer items in the game to take advantage of by the nature of her abilities and stat scores than most other champs so there are few builds that will do good by her without being highly tanky... as the only other option is massive AP, Check.

but there's something about Taliyah i want to share with everyone that might open Rioter eyes up to the world the designers are building here...

Let's talk about why Taliyah rocks real quick. . .

i'm going to create a new term here, i'm going to make a title for abilities that i will suddenly call "tech-shots".

unlike tahm and blitz who are "skill-shot" types, Taliyah is a "tech-shot" type. . .

if bouncing a basket ball (i can't believe i'm making this metaphor) off the backboard to get it into the hoop is a skill-shot, then a free-throw with all 100% net would be a tech-shot.

so a tech-shot is a skill-shot with ZERO lag tolerance, and MAXIMUM skill cap.

ALL of Taliyah's abilities are these new "tech-shots" i'm describing.

Taliyah is not a mage, she's a support with seemingly magy abilities, used as an excuse to implement a large array of situational tech-shots with very scary cooldowns.

Taliyah can hail a nightmare of slaughter onto an enemy team if she knows exactly how and when to use her abilities (all throughout the game)..

in other words, Taliyah shouldn't cast shyt to do damage UNLESS she's farming, and even then she's wasting cooldown time.

Taliyah should only use her abilities when it would make life MISERABLE for the enemy team.

That's how u use Taliyah.

Taliyah is a support, and my favorite character in the game, i'm trying to main her now with Janna, Kayle, Nami and Sona as my backups because Taliyah means everything to me.

i'm a support main, and this is what Taliyah's design as a support points toward. . . ---> "sabotaging the enemy".

the better of a support saboteur you are, the better u will be with Taliyah <3

Taliyah is NOT a mage, she is NOT there to do damage.

You can't possibly tell whether she's weak or strong. She's been out for a few days lol. People need to play her. Sol was generally seen as garbage, then a while later suddenly he's OP. Stop making dumb topics when you don't have nearly enough playtime on her.

Boulderox5/20/2016, 3:32:12 AM1 votes

The trouble is her E is very underwhelming early-mid game, if you go vs say an Ahri, she can ult into it, she takes 200 damage, but she can kill you, if she misses her W she will die to ANYTHING with a gap closer...

And for crap sake, CAN we make it so if she casts ult, if she TAKES DAMAGE DURING cast, she cannot ride it, but if people CAN get the cast off, taliyah CANNOT be knocked off of it.... So many times this could make her so much more viable, without making her have a FREE escape.

I agree she was released a notch below being balanced state for her. I think Riot did that to be careful. Taliyah is a high skill cap champ so they don't want to break the game (lol).

I'm just going to quote myself on my initial reactions about her.

I only messed around with her in customs, just to try to get the feel of her.

Her passive is okay. Out of combat movement isn't really exciting, I like how the model looks in game when she is surfing.

I hate her Q. Mainly because the duration of the worked ground feels so punishing. Without any CDR (since the duration of worked ground is lowered with CDR) it takes 3 minutes for worked ground to fade. And without any bonuses with casting on worked ground makes you feel like you are casting half an ability. While it does give a bit of movement speed, she has so much inherent out of combat movement I'd gladly get rid of the worked ground movement for a lower duration worked ground.

Her W I think is fine, outside of usability issues that can be fixed it is an okay ability.

Her E is I think her best ability when I thought it was a terrible ability at a glance. I do think it should be maxed first just so she has a decent amount of wave clear, and good harassment. In combination of her W it makes the lane a bit easier to control.

Her ult is the only reason she is even slightly exciting. Super Anivia wall that can also be used to roam. Now do I think this alone makes her a good enough a pick? Well no.

My prediction is that she is going to fall into obscurity. Short ranges, small amount of zone control, and self punishing ability. I don't think her ult is enough to carry her into a respectable pick. I think she is going to be okay, but never great.

Taliyah dmg is fine, just look at the numbers if she fullburst you she is going to hurt very bad, issue is that her kit require too much time to actually set uo anything. W is hard to land, and you need to put your e down before using w. When you use w you also cant use any abilities or summoners untill it pop.

The only real issues with her kit (balance whise) seems to be that her worked ground stay too long and that you can't chain a e after using w, wich make him almost impossible to actually do the combo (wich would leave you vulnerable anyway since your range is pretty low).

Her ult cd might be a little too high too, but i believe that her w need to let her use abilities and summoners during cast before anything else.

The Deckowner5/20/2016, 4:42:20 AM1 votes

I feel like Taliyah is more of a utility mage, her dmg early game kinda sucks but late game she is so tanky while doing insane amount of dmg. her ult is also game changing and very good for roaming.
