When you gang up on the support...

I play a lot of Brand support recently, sans Sightstone. Since most of the team ends up going all AD melee assassin and the most anyone has for range is Vayne's basic attacks, mage supports end up becoming a necessity merely for the sake of artillery. The good thing about Brand is he doesn't even need to hit hard; tagging an enemy will strip away 8% of their max HP if they're not building magic resist (and who does?), and if he has sorcerer's shoes and Liandry's Torment, it's basically true damage, and three of his spells are AOE. So aside from the support item and Liandry's, I can build straight utility items on Brand (Crucible, Twin Shadows, Portal) and let my passive do the damage for me. And I still somehow deal more damage than the rest of the team.
