It is a parody of the line "And I get to tend the rabbits" from the classic Novel Of Mice and Men. Short story being, Lenny, the one who was shot, being mentally challenged, accidently kills a woman. A huge Posse of other folk try to hunt him down, and probably hurt him real bad, so George, the one who does the shooting, puts him down like an old dog, because he knows that this process will only continue, even if they ran away again.

i remember reading that book in my first year of college... and crying out loud at two moments in the story... the feels were real :S
