Bruiser Aatrox build: Death's Dance/Phantom Dancer/Sterak's or Maw/ Spirit Visage/Guardian Angel/boots

That's just his bruiser build with enough attack speed and damage reduction to tank out quite a lot of burst, Sterak's vs Maw is pretty much do you want to live vs AD burst or vs AP burst? Maw also has a really strong healing passive once below a certain threshold which makes for a nice safety net.

I see now. They're bringing Aatrox back to the meta and putting Shen where he used to be.

I get it! Aatrox and Shen, according to Riot's balancing philosopjy, cannot exist in the meta at the same time.

Somewhat off topic, but I remember when Shen was practically a brick wall in lane since you basically couldn't kill him if he was any kind of smart. He couldn't really wreck you either, but you sure couldn't do the opposite.

5% more heals from spirit visage, same reason executioner price increase helps aatrox, it counters vlad with 40% reduced healing. The ad on items doesnt help him tho.

The change to hellbent puts it nearly at pre-rework state, he can keep his passive up at 100% both in the jungle and in lane reliably now so his revive is available to him more often now. The only differences between pre-rework and now after 7.8 drops will be he has that 25% extra AD for much longer and the passive drops off just slightly faster when out of combat. Stacking the passive to 100% is about the same comparing pre-rework to current.

It's literally useless on Aatrox. GA revives him with 0 bloodwell so he loses his ability to revive.

Seeing the new tank items on the PBE and realizing that they'll be fantastic for Aatrox vs. sustained AP and for teamfighting, respectively

The GA buff might not help Aatrox that much, I think that if he dies it will activate GA first and then his passive.

They should make Executioner's Calling inconsistent. Similar to Morello or with passive cooldown. Simply increasing price won't do any good.

Because Aatrox is the blade and the giant dude carying it is likely doing so against his own will. Most VO is likely the blade talking, but maybe the big dude is able to come out sometimes.
