Having the AOE autoattack makes her viable in mid lane. Without it, she'd have no way of clearing more than one creep at a time. None of her other moves deal damage to more than one target. Take a look at Yasuo's Q, Morgana's W, or anyone else's abilities. Yasuo's Q pierces through creeps to deal damage to all of them in the line, Morgana's is a straight AOE pool. Without Kayle's E, she'd be pretty useless.

I think her Ult CD could be extended by another 5-10s and still feel fair.

I don't know, I think Kayle is nearing "balanced". I think extending her ultimate cooldown would be good by 10-15 seconds or so because of its raw, no cost power.

Kayle is pretty balanced and she would have to reduce her mana cost and cd on her Q just so that she can last hit but then again it would bring to question the amount of burst on her opponent if her E is changed. She's fine as she is with her stats but I will agree the ultimate could do with maybe a few more seconds but when you build the items it won't matter much anyway. item 3275 item 3115 item 3135 item 3089 item 3174 item 3128 = Sadly, 40% is the max CDR but still the powers are amazing _

I think Kayle is fine. IMO her ult feels a little underpowered compared to poppy and trynd. IMO you really have to time it right and if you cast it on an ally, hope they make use of it.

I think Kayle's ult stacks up favourably compared to Poppy's or Trynd. Consider:

  1. It can target an allied champion and not just Kayle herself.
  2. Unlike Poppy's, it doesn't require a "weak" enemy to be present to be useful.
  3. Unlike Tryndamere's, it can be applied before an enemy assassin's combo, leaving the recipient at high health and able to continue fighting.

It's #1 that's the big problem. Your ally might ignore it, not expect it, run away just as you cast it when he should engage hard, etc.

That's not a problem with the ability, though. That's more of a communication and coordination problem. Your teammates have to be aware that your ult is available, trust that you're going to use it wisely, and be on the same page with you regarding tactics.

For example, you complain that an ally runs away when he should engage. On the other hand, I've had a Kayle complain that she saved my life and I threw it away by going back in anyway. We weren't on the same page with regard to tactics. I reiterate, though, that wasn't a problem with the ability. That was a problem with Kayle and me communicating effectively.

Which is a problem in SoloQ, Normals, and ARAM. You've got a very narrow window and it is difficult to get on page with someone in a match if you can't talk to them.

It's a good ult for coordinated teams (still a bit short after all the nerfs) but not in general. And you have to give up a lot of power for yourself to be able to use it on others.

I understand the case that you're making but I disagree that it's a problem. Some champions are situationally better than others. Kayle's situation just happens to involve the circumstances permitting communication and trust between the players. That's acceptable to me (and it probably isn't a situation unique to Kayle).

Kayle's ult just needs a slight increase to CD. It really feels too spammable to go against kayle as she just ults every time you go for her.
