They don't care about game health, all they're out to do is promote their flashy over-the-top bullshit playmakers so Reddit has something to beat off to. After a few tiny nerfs, the Cinderhulk meta was the most healthy and accepted meta we've had in years. Does anyone really not remember how happy people were when most (yes most) of the roster was viable and saw play since the "I'm going to kill you in half a second and there's nothing you can do about it" champs weren't occupying every lane?

Who was upset? The flashy bullshit spammers, the balance team, and the spectators. Only one of these three unhappy groups should have any affect on the next decision, and that's the first. What should have happened? Maybe learn how to play instead of trying to look like someone in the LCS and mindlessly mash buttons to look flashy while you try to kill someone? You can't oneshot a tank; that's kinda what they're for...try building some armor pen and stop trying to 1v1 them for god's sake.

But it's their game, why shouldn't Riot have a say in this?

Because last I checked, they want to preserve League as a player-focused game, and that's just laughable when you read what this "unbiased" balance team wants to do with something healthy to make it more appealing to watch. Just look at the notes for the patch coming out! They don't even try to fucking hide that they want flashy plays at Worlds - they do all but flat out admit to it! Why should they get a say in what the game should be when they aren't trustworthy enough to tell the truth for a single patch??

Spectators are an important part of League though.

Why? Why are they given focus at all? More importantly, why is Riot opening discussion with them for what they want to see? Is it any wonder why Riot favors third party sites and shit like Ask.fm? It allows for non-players to submit their opinions when they shouldn't be given a single ounce of care. It would be like someone who only watches basketball and has never played in their life suggesting to the NBA how they play the game. I'm sorry, but your opinion shouldn't matter, and shouldn't mean anything.

They like to talk to these people because the playerbase mocks and criticizes them for decisions that don't make sense or want to avoid contact when we point out what they've lied about or showing them in detail what and where they have been wrong about and refuse to do anything about it.

Look at all the white knights coming to defend the lie they want to live in.

Okay. I don't really see how Cinderhulk meta was the most healthy and accepted meta in years. I guess it's because I wasn't on the boards really at that time, but personally I hate the fact that NO ONE EVER DIES in that meta. Plus, I fail to see how all assassins are bullshit spammers. Last I checked, tanks were the easiest champions to play in the game because they don't die.

That's just my opinion though.

Also, I fail to see how your post is unbiased. Everyone is biased. It can't be helped. Your post clearly is ranting against assassins and how Cinderhulk meta is over (and I pray to Ryze that it never returns).

This is the game RIOT made. If you don't like it, stop playing. They can change the meta as they wish.

And, yes, armor was nerfed. Yes, a few assassins received small buffs (okay Lee's buff wasn't too small), but that doesn't mean assassin meta is back.

If spectators are an important part of LoL, then how is Riot supposed to attract spectators? By having a tanky af Sejuani and Zac punch and cc each other for 20 minutes until they run away to avoid dying. Tanky junglers were kinda OP in Cinderhulk meta. They were basically assassins with health and defense.

But, since almost everyone was tanky, no one ever died except those who wanted to play assassins or non-tanks. I don't like playing as tanks. Not one bit.

tl;dr: Your entire post was biased, as is mine. Tanks never die and Riot wants LCS to be somewhat interesting. No one wants to watch tanks just cc each other for the entire game and never die.

It's only fitting that Poppy builds devourer, because whoever picks Poppy is going straight for the souls of the players when she ganks.

She ganks for keeps.

What? The tank meta was the most diverse meta we have had in a long time.

Also pick adcs or lose wow balance. This isn't an argument of class balance. Teams with tanks win more games, just like teams with ADCs win more games. It's just good strategy to have a strong front line.

tanks are just stupid op if you stack aoe cc, had a game yesterday lost every lane i sucked jg my worst roll but we had amumu malphite won every fight even tho we were wayyy behind in gold

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

Tanks weren't dealing the damage though, if amumu and malphite both ult your team then you've got another 10 seconds before they can kill you.

I found it in your match history... to name a few reasons why you won that game.

Their janna was way behind, your talon was way ahead, they weren't warding for shit, the enemy nunu had a 0 MR "tank" build, your teams average elo was low plat high gold while theirs was mid gold, Fiora farmed to get ahead but didn't do anything with that lead, You had a better teamfight comp, their comp had little synergy,

A couple of things, why would nunu build mr before stacking armor since our 2 main threats were ad(and our ap was behind as hell), you are a fool if you think the difference between mid-high gold and low plat is anything for most players. They actually had decent disengage synergy with 3 good disengages but they usually died before they got it off which is why I hate janna. Talon was losing lane and started 1-3 he only got ahead as the game went on if i am not mistaken. We had the better teamfight because of our tanks, no other class can afford to play so mediocre and be so effective on the game like i did, don't think i had 1 successful gank all game but it didn't matter ult in fights win.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

none of the reasons i listed directly caused the loss for their team, but i'm fairly certain they all contributed, and the "tanks OP" argument you are making here is just poorly thought out because you didn't analyze why you won.

Nunu shouldn't rush MR, but after ~40 min to have 0 is still failing and allowed you and malphite to deal damage even when behind. If he doesn't counter build you he may as well not be ahead at all. He counterbuilt the talon but i'm betting talon wasn't bothering with the nunu at all focusing instead on the trist or fiora. This means his build was questionable.

The differences in skill are present, even if not drastic i can bet on that contributing.

They had janna for disengage and the trist ult, which helps, but the nunu and fiora probably weren't contributing to that effort. Janna blows engaging enemies out of nunu or ori ult. Fiora wants to all in teamfight, while her team doesn't want to. There are two anti-synergies in their team comp. 2 engage and 2 disengage doesn't lend itself to victory very well.

Your team comp on the other hand was entirely oriented around the mid game. As picks start to happen talon and blitzcrank excel, meaning that combined with the enemies poor warding you will start to come back from your losing lanes through pick potential. When skirmishes happen and later teamfights you have great initiation, and if one of your initiates gets denied through their disengage, you have more engage. You have more engage tools than they have disengage (bandage toss, righteous glory, malphite ult, talon flank, blitz grab) when combined with ezreals+malphites poke means you will always have good initiations to take.

We had the better teamfight because of our tanks, no other class can afford to play so mediocre and be so effective on the game like i did, don't think i had 1 successful gank all game but it didn't matter ult in fights win.

Right, which means the enemy didn't punish your poor early game enough to win, and your superior mid and late game carried you through. Your win condition on amumu isn't to gank well, it's to win teamfights, so it sounds like you played to your win conditions better than they did theirs.

You can lose lane but win game, winning lane is not a prerequisite to winning game.

It was all about strategy and rotations instead of "I'm going to kill you in half a second and there's fuck-all you can do about it." Ya know, the way a League should be (by popular opinion). But if you just want it to be go in, mash all your buttons, "OMG I'M SO GOOD AT GAMEZ", more power to you I guess.

Fair enough, I suppose that IS how my tl'dr makes it sound. ^^;

Seriously though, I don't really see how Cinderhulk was the thinking man's meta. It consisted mostly of tanks that out-damaged assassins. There's a serious problem with a tank doing the job of an assassin better than an actual assassin.

Strategy then seemed to mostly be, "QUICK CC THE OTHER TEAM TO HELL AND NEVER DIE BECAUSE TANK." While assassins WERE kinda OP in assassin meta, they were pretty much useless in Cinderhulk meta.

I agree that never dying makes for a pretty boring game, but it also makes for pretty much the only meta where ADC's aren't completely irrelevant, because their job is to buy a LW and wreck the tanks. And what tanks are you referring to that do more damage than an assassin? Sejuani maybe, but she got nerfed into the ground pretty quickly. Maokai? Used to do damage but now nobody even buys him a RoA anymore because Righteous is so much better. I can't think of any tanks other than Sejuani that have any good damage scalings when built full tank. And on champions like Vi or Rek'Sai who actually can do damage, if you decide to build damage you're no longer unkillable, so that throws your first argument out the window, doesn't it?

The Governer24 votes

My sentiment exactly.

Not only do they butcher tanks by a large margin for no reasons other than "assassins should be able to kill tanks faster" stance (laughable I know), they buff assassins and bruisers because they make LCS flashy plays$$$$$$.

In a MOBA like this, the supposed game balance should be:

  1. Assassins should be able to overcome mages and AD carries with gapclosers and burst damage, but they should not have escapes, that allow them to take no repercussions if they engage wrongly and fail to assassinate. An escape should be rewarded to assassins who succeed in assassinating, not those who fail in assassinating.
  2. AD carries should be able to kill tanks (since in late game they should be able to deal high sustained damage to tanks unless they position themselves wrongly)
  3. Tanks should be able to deal with burst damage from assassins and should be able to punish assassins if assassins engage improperly at wrong time and position.
  4. AD carries should not have (cost-free) constant dashes (Yes I am looking at you Kalista) since they already have high range and have access to life steal which costs nothing.
  5. Tanks should not be able to deal high damage and tank damage at the same time.
  6. Assassins should not have long-ranged-and-high-damage-and-low-cooldown pokes (aka Zed, Nidalee, etc). Even if they do, the pokes should deal little damage, and should be served primarily as a means to engage (like Katarina's Q debuff for example).
  7. Bruisers (like Jax, Irelia, Xin Zhao, Lee Sin, etc...) should have DPS moderately lower than that of AD carries, and should not be able to tank damage as much as tanks do. They should be basically "a little of this, a little of that" champions.
  8. Bruisers should be able to kill squishy carries by circumventing the CC from tanks and without invisible hidden powers like Irelia's passive.
  9. AD carries should have only one of these characteristics in each of their kits: hard CC non-ultimate regular abilities plus snares (snares are preferably healthier for AD carries), or dashes. They shouldn't have both since they are supposed to be damage dealers. They are not supposed to dish out hard CC like tanks do. A little knockback, knockup, knock-sideway is fine for AD carries with dashes, as long as these abilities do not drastically impact a fight.
  10. Assassins should not have access to hard CC, and if they do, the gateway to successfully activating hard CC should be difficult. Ekko's W is a perfect example of the "gateway".
  11. Mages should be able to have some abilities that allow them to counter assassins a little (aka hard CC), since many of them have no escapes. These hard CC abilities should be difficult to use (should be less difficult than that of assassins, if any) but extremely rewarding when pulled out successfully.
  12. Tanks should be most of the gateway to hard CC.

The post-nerf Cinderhulk is not perfect (since tanks dealt a lot more damage than they should), but its associated tank meta is arguably one of the most balanced metas in the history of LOL, because almost all of the above applies in the meta. Riot ruined things over by making armor less useful and making assassins and bruisers have to ability to kill tanks when they shouldn't be able to.

Quort3 votes

If an Assassin doesn't have an escape or poke, then they have to have massive 100-0 damage in order to be effective and that is generally not fun to play against. Not to mention they would then be garbage at anything that isn't killing an isolated, squishy target.

The Governer2 votes

You misread my comment obviously. I mean assassins should not be rewarded an escape if they fail to engage or assassinate. An escape should be a reward, not a "get-out-of-jail-free" card.

I also disagree with your stance on poking. Many assassins already have massive AOE damage to obliterate squishy carries (that's plural) if they engage properly. They do not need high damage pokes to do the job. If an assassin relies on pokes to do his assassination, why don't Riot just make him a mage? A mage relies on pokes whilst an assassin relies on quick engage, gapclosing and assassinating, not pokes. I even listed one exception to this "no pokes for assassins" rule: if a poke ability does not do massive damage and opens the door to engaging assassination (like Katarina's Q), the "no poke" rule does not apply.

Also, tell this to Talon and Rengar, who have ultimates that allow them to do either one of the following only: escape/going all-in and assassinating one/more target(s), without escaping (or escaping conditionally with enemy minions nearby, using their regular non-ultimate ability/passive). Tell that to Akali, who basically either goes all-in or dies unless there are enemy minions around, too.

To start I agree with you completely. The majority of players is not who they listen too. They are balancing based ENTIRELY off of the LCS.

BUT

I do have to say the reason the spectators are getting say is because in reality thats their plan to sustain the game. Because if LCS is popular enough pros make money, if pros make money people want to do that for a job so they will start playing the game hoping for that shot. Spectators make the game profitable just like with your NBA analogy... The players are putting on the show so that the spectators buy tickets... and jerseys... and food etc... spectators and pros are the most important thing for them right now and if you aren't in that group then Riot wants you to shut the fuck up and play the game. They don't care if its not healthy, balanced, or fun for people under diamond 1. Period.

So you prefer to spend half the game in a grey screen because you had 0.5 seconds to react to the assassins ?

LeeDark4 votes

There is no skill in the wet noodle contest. There is no risk for going in, because you take forever to kill and can literally just WALK out of the fight with more than half your HP left. Teamfights devolve into just which ADC and APC do more damage overall, because whichever team runs out of tanks first loses.

In the assassin meta, positioning and reactions matter. If you get out of position, you deserve to die, not just take half your health in damage and walk away laughing. If you don't react to a flank, you deserve to die. You got outplayed. Being able to be forgiven for playing bad just because you picked the beefiest champion you could shouldn't be the way the game works.

Not what I asked...

and you think the assassin meta took any skill? you could kill anyone with half a rotation, that position you talk about, that was important when you COULDN'T kill everyone in a blink of an eye In the tank meta, assassins were what they were supposed to be, sneaky guys who went to the backline to kill the squishies In the assassin meta, everyone is squishy so no need for positioning or strategy, just jump in, kill everyone and dont even bother jumping out because everyone is already dead

And at the very least, in the tank meta people had FUN, both teams, both players in a fight Not just the Zed that R'ed from krugs and killed the enemy before he could do anything about it

You know why counterplay is important? so the game is fun for both, not just the one playing the champ That is why you can destroy enemy gangplank barrels That is why Sions charge is hard to turn and block on terrain That is why certain abilities can escape Jarvan wall

You know what DOESN'T have counterplay? something that kills you before you can react! (Zed Leblanc LeeSin Rengar )

You know why people don't complain about Diana or JarvanIV so much? because they are not toxic They have counterplay, you can stop them with a bit of skill with any champ, they don't kill you before you can react to it But Zed? either go thank or have Zonyas

THAT is why people liked the tank meta, because everyone had a chance, because everyone could be played, because there was always a way to win despite the champions a team was composed of

You got bored from tank meta? Most people got sick and tired of looking at the grey screen most of the game
