To be fair, it's not a bad buy at all, buying ancient golem+mercs gives you some health, armor and mr, all the base building blocks for tankiness. Also, you won't need it vs low-cc teams, which do pop up every now and then. I do agree a lategame tank tenacity item would be nice, but considering your boot options lategame are mercs or ninja tabi, the current system works.

I wouldn't say "forced"; I would say that it is more convenient since SotAG already gives Armor that Nija Tabis also provide, and getting MR seems convenient to have along with the tenacity because most ganks occur in the mid lane where ap champs with CC fight. The only thing lost is probably the passive of 10% less from autos especially against adc's. I still think boots are situational... If your that afraid of the enemy adc then just go ninja tabis anyway, you can't have the best of both worlds, and I guess that's what riot is trying to go for.

So would you rather soak up CC and feel like your stuck for centruries to recieve less damage from the scary adc or would you rather have both mr and armor, and tenacity to last longer in fights. In any case do you really think the ADC will go for the tank? Not as often as you may think although it is there job to shoot whatever is in the frontline.

Riot is heading towards the right direction but I do agree more itemization for tenacity is needed. Maybe a tank item that builds off of QSS would be nice since banshees doesn't really block a specific spell that may include cc.

TL;DR: Riot heading toward right direction, but not necessarily.

Sidenote: One problem in the past was that no one would buy mercs because SotAG already gave tencaity since it doesn't stack, not sure how often this happened though. This gave more than enough reason for people to go to damage oriented junglers like vi or lee sin. Where Mercs and Lizard, followed by some tank item seemed the best way to build early and snowball.

The main problem is how does one make a tenacity item that doesn't directly appeal to every other group?

Tenacity is something that's great but not everyone should be getting. Zephyr being bought after selling boots is definitely a late-game thing for ADCs/Marksmen, but generally I don't believe that you can make too many tank items with tenacity and NOT have them appeal to bruisers/fighters/etc.

Golem spirit was great because it meant that taking that denied you buying Lizard, Lantern or Wraith, trading great damage options for tenacity. Now I just think there's little you could be doing that could be an item tanks want but others wouldn't.

Maybe stick tenacity on thornmail or something. Would make the item more effective but still primarily be a tank item. (Lotta cost for just a ton of armor and fighters probably aren't going to be alive long enough to justify thornmail like a tank would)

I also think there are really not enough options to get tenacity in the game, considering it´s a damn important stat for anything that wants to fight close. The few options that exist(ed) are either very niche (zephyr), not available in SR (moonflair <3)or restricted to a certain role (old SoA) - leaving mercs as the only real option for most champs that wanted tenacity for ages.

I think they should finally make tenacity a boot-enchant, so everyone can get it if he feels the need and it doesn´t force one into very awkward buildpaths.

A good idea might be to implement "Moonflair Spellblade" item 3170 into SR (Its only available in Twisted Treeline), since it gives a fine amount of Armor and MR + 50AP and tenacity, althoug it seems like a bit of a op ítem, it cant really be abused by mages, and will be used most effectibly by most Tanks (most Tanks scale off AP).

With no tenacity and champions like Morgana Braum in the game now... bring a magazine to teamfights, youre gonna have a lot of downtime.

That might be intentional though. Back when they changed Boots of Mobility the Rioter who was discussing the change said that he thought Ninja Tabi probably gave too much defense for its cost. They changed Boots of Mobility, they changed Berserker's Greaves, they said they were going to make Boots of Lucidity only 10% cdr and drop its price, so they may very well be planning to nerf Tabi at some point as well, and if they remove all the Tenacity items tanks and bruisers won't be able to complain much if they nerf Tabi because they have to build Merc Treads instead.

Let's be honest, do you feel the difference when you have Tenacity and when you don't? Everyone says you "have" to have it, but it really isn't a "needed" stat. Tenacity is only good if the enemy team has multiple stuns, and if they're stunning the TANK they're doing it wrong. There is very very very few instances where tenacity feels like a good stat and doesn't feel like hidden power or worse, no power.

Tenacity isn't really a good stat to complain about "needing" on a tank because it doesn't matter if you're stunned or not. If they're wasting the stun on you, your adc should be wrecking them. That's the POINT of a tank is to soak dmg and cc. I understand how "oh you'll be able to do something faster", but it really doesn't matter because your job is to be a dmg soak and to cc, and guess what TANKING CC IS JUST AS GOOD AS CCING THE ENEMY.

tl;dr: Tenacity is an overrated stat for tanks and people really shouldn't complain about it not being on a lot of items.... (next the complaining will go to Spell vamp on lots of items....)
