Help a Troll. Trundle troubles. Trundle vs Garen in-lane.

Hello, I've recently picked up playing Trundle. I love his dueling potential. I am having issues lanning vs Garen on top lane though. I've looked up in championselect and Garen does not appear as a strong pick vs Trundle nor Trundle a weak pick vs Garen. It's not that I die vs him and I actually have been pretty good so far surviving ganks. My issue is CSing vs him. I don't have issues with last hitting but his E punishment. They just kind of brush me with it and if I make an attempt to get close to him he'll just kite me with E. Slow's aren't very good with Garen since his Q clears them off and the time's I've fought against him the players have picked slow-reduction boots. I am aware that Trundle's wave-clear is fairly weak outside of using his W for AS vs minions. I like getting Ravenous hydra + Sunfire cape on him but it's really not one of the 1st items I like to get. Thanks for any help you may provide. - Troll.

You almost always have to start with cloth armor and 5 pots against a garen top where you are a melee bruiser. I'd recommend going 9-21-0 on his masteries and taking standard tanky AD Runes.

Keep in mind your bite (Q) will reduce his damage.

The best thing to do is play passive against him, last hit, and farm until you get a few items that allow you to deal with him.

Stack your armor up and try to avoid his crit's with it. use your ice block spell as a knockback but youll have to practice timing it. Wait till he E's then knockback (sort of) then go for your last hits. I would image he would use Q to get away from you, thinking your going in for the engage. Dont let him get the mentality that he can bully you. You can always call your jungler for assistance too. I main jungle and I'd rather gank top (unless teemo) then bot anyday.

Use pillar to displace him. If you get it just right he will pop back a decent distance and then will have to run around the slowing pillar to get back to you. If you time it just right he will waste the spin away from you then drop W and Q if he still comes back. Use minion agro as much as possible and avoid the return.

In the very early game the W is you best friend.

Trundle affects target location with his curse for 8 seconds, gaining movement speed (20-40%), attack speed (20-60%) and crowd control reduction (20-40%) while on it. Cost 60 mana Cooldown 15 seconds Range 900

Or working around the group a little so several are low and then with W chomp several last hits for the same damage from his trade is another option.

Good thing to remember is that your Q will reduce the damage he does by quite a bit. I usually rush Life Steal vs Garen, especially 1 or 2 Doran's Blades. Trundle is just a crazy duelist, especially if you get Ravenous Hydra and BotRK (only 2 offensive items I buy for him).

Seeing as your issue is CSing vs him, I would recommend rushing Ravenous Hydra first. Grab the HP/5 items first, to increase your lane sustain. As soon as you finish the RH, you'll be able to clear waves almost as fast as him. Armor is useful, but vs Garen, your Q pretty much does that already. It reduces his Attack Damage and thus his overall damage. (Note, his E is reduced a LOT, as his AD Coeff is applied 3 times over the full duration.)
