Discussion on the game and it's direction jumping into Season 4.

Hi all,

I'm really excited about the new Community discussion board. There was too much of everything on GD in the forums to try and have serious discussions about content, game mechanics, etc.

To begin, I'm VERY excited for what you guys have in store for Season 4. With much of the games code being updated to improve consistency in skillshots, to new vision mechanics, to new itemization and balance, this will allow the game to grow even larger and hopefully allow for more fun, skillful play. Morello mentioned in one of his posts,

  • "We're going to significantly improve, and ultimately fix, jungle and support gold flow... and very likely throw balance into a tailspin for preseason."

THAT'S OKAY!! In fact, it's exciting and allows for new meta and ideas to allow for diverse play. I'd like to call this "liquid" metagame (aspiring game designer here, I don't know correct terminology :P). Currently, the meta feels very "solid", and that's okay, too! It's the end of the season, and is to be expected.

With this in mind, I'd like to hear from Riot about their thoughts on a few topics as well as the community, because most of the time the opinions differ!

  • Do you like where the game currently sits? What's good/bad about it?
  • Are there any disappointments in S3 that you wish could have been executed better?
  • What were your favorite things about S3 compared to previous seasons?
  • Vision is a big one, but what other things do you hope to accomplish for S4? Can we expect itemization to get many changes like S3?

More on the current meta: How do you think assassins are going to react to S4 changes? Since they are strong as is right now (and some claim assassins have some of the most fun ;) ) My GUESS is that in S4, vision is going to be easier to obtain, but limited (whether reduced vision of the wards themselves/reduced time) tied in with a cap at the number of wards per person on the field (excluding sightstone) but generally make vision cheaper. Changes to inventory (ward slot?) and Vision wards (probably nerf) Honestly, I hope that vision becomes less of "if you do it (buy wards) you have a large advantage at the cost of some gold" to "vision is cheap but must be used skillfully to be effective".

EDIT: Noticed Xelnath said:

  • "We're looking at giving everyone the option between: A wriggles ward, a mini-CV and a one-shot oracles peek effect."

I hope he clarifies a little more on "giving everyone the option". Very interesting idea.

I bet "giving everyone the option" is somehow attached to boots.
