While tradition is not a tenet, it's a mirror and it's also a foundation for moving forward. You can't move forward without studying tradition and by extension history, as all you would do is being suspended in ignorance and also prone to repeating the same mistake you'd otherwise avoid if you'd studied. Not to mention, without studying what came before and insist on going off your own tangent without any foundation, your work would most likely end up coarse and primitive in nature since all it effectively achieved is like deciding to abolish civilisation and going back to drawing doodles on cave walls and term it a big progress; the same is applied to if your motivation of moving forward comes from a total and blanket kneekerk rejection of what came before without at least first understand why it was done the way it did, it's an primitive and regressive mindset that will not produce intricate work, no matter what it is.
