Recently I was having a conversation with a friend about this and I just wanted to hear the League communities opinion on the topic. For the newer players who weren't around during the era of Courage of the Colossus, I have written the effects of both keystones below.

Aftershock: Immobilizing an enemy champion grants 70 (+ 50% bonus armor) bonus armor and 70 (+ 50% bonus magic resistance) bonus magic resistance for 2.5 seconds. The bonus resistances are capped at 80 − 150 (based on level). After the duration, you release a shockwave that deals 10 − 120 (based on level) (+ 4% of your maximum health) magic damage to nearby enemy champions and monsters. Cooldown 35 seconds

Courage of the Colossus: Gain a shield for 3 − 54 (based on level) (+ 5% maximum health) per nearby enemy champion for 3 seconds after hitting an enemy champion with a stun, taunt, snare, or knock up. Cooldown 45 − 30 (based on level) seconds

Personally I liked Courage of the Colossus more. It is from an era where keystones were weaker but I appreciate the design of it more. Being based on health when the game state was pushing more towards health as primary durability and resists being nerfed does make it universally useful. And being a shield rather than a resistance buff does mean that its very obvious how much more durable you are, its displayed on your hp bar.

Meanwhile for Aftershock, how effective it is at keeping you alive is vague. Its obvious for experienced players that the thing is obscenely strong though. When its viable even on mages who are only buying Zhonya's the base resists are very strong, and getting 50% of your bonus resists essentially means even before the flat amount you are getting a little under 150% value in both armor and magic resist. That's obscenely strong.

Yet consider that tanks, the role that can abuse Aftershock the most, is considered weak. There's very little resists in the game overall to buy. The thing is giving resists that are better than Leona's rank 5 W straight from lv1. This obscene amount of durability is both harder to tell how much effective health its actually valued at and it's not actually making the tank role strong. We are seeing support tanks like Nautilus and Leona and there has been Gragas presence, but he's building full AP. The meta is still very damage centric even with this incredibly powerful durability rune in the game, I think that says a lot.
