you have to pay for online play? are you kidding me?[sg-ahri-3] That is ridiculous I am pulling my preorder.

Didn't you hear about how they had stripped multiple features that were standard in older games for models that weren't upgraded?

I heard that only Pokemon found in the new Galar Region will be available. Pokemon that do not have entries in the Galar Pokedex will not be able to join your team, you can't even use Pokemon Bank/Pokemon Home to transfer them over.
I'm sure that there's more stuff that was taken out, but this was one of the things I heard that pissed off a good portion of the playerbase.

Sword and Shield will not include the following:
And the models/animations were not noticeably improved, which was something GameFreak promised.
EDIT: Forgot that they were removing battle tree as well. They mentioned that nobody really played the post game stuff.

Sword and Shield will not include the following:
- National Dex (pokemon you cannot normally catch in the sword/shield games)
- Z Moves (fancy type moves with a few for specific pokemon/move combinations)
- Mega Evolutions (I shouldn't need to go into this)
All of these are good removals and make me more likely to play it.
All....Switch games you pay for the online? Isn't it only like 20 dollars a year?
Yes.
Yes.
Then why are people complaining, people have been paying 60 dollars a year for both PSN and Xbox live for TWO gens, why are they complaining about 20 dollars a year is beyond me.
Any idea if pokebank is included in that now?
Any idea if pokebank is included in that now?
Pokebank is a separate service. I do not have a Nintendo Online subscription and still maintain Pokebank. However, Nintendo Online may include pokebank, I simply don't know.
I'm almost positive that they'll combine the services eventually.
Either way, I'm just sticking with PokeMMO now.
Get to play all the pokemon games they add, don't have 2 hours of cutscenes total, each 2-5 mins apart, and their online battling is like the originals.

For the time being, they are 100% separate. I just checked.

Yes.
Why are any of those good removals?

Why are any of those good removals?
- Mega Evolutions I can understand to a degree. But they still had some strategic and thematic value.
- Z moves were still less gimmicky than their gigantomax mechanic (generic mega evolution)
- National Dex removed being good? Seriously? What are you on? (Would love your reasoning though.)
Mega Evolutions and Z Moves are both unnecessary gimmicks that were added to individual games in a vain attempt to make them feel different from other games. (I'm not a big fan of the giganotamax mechanic either, btw, I'd prefer if that didn't exist either, but at least it's the only one instead of all three existing, you know?)
National Dex is wildly unnecessary. Play the game you're playing, there is no reason to add six hundred pokemon to the game just so you don't have to deal with change and actually use new pokemon for once. The game is about capturing new pokemon, not about re-using the ones you already caught.
Mega Evolutions were okay. They added gameplay niches like mega slowbro, mega scizor, mega gengar, etc.
The only problem I ever had with them were that you could use all 3 of the legendary mega evolutions in the online battle mode that only allowed 3 pokemon...letting you stat-check pretty much anyone. I didn't use them, but so many people abused it. Normally you're limited to one mega evolution per team. You use it on one pokemon, the rest are locked out, with the exception of those 3 legendaries. But it wouldn't let me use my Keldeo lmao.

Mega Evolutions still had strategic value because of type changes in some of the pokemon (Charizard being an immediate example). Not making new ones is somewhat understandable due to the extra work required.
Z Moves I can do without but would rather have those over Gigantomax. Those at least have time and place as you can only use one type of Z move per pokemon. Gigantomax is just... yuck.
National Dex means you can keep using pokemon you've used over several games. For some people, that is pretty important. They have an attachment to those pokes and want to be able to bring them forward. I wouldn't call it unnecessary either. It's an extra feature and gives you opportunities to get pokemon in games you otherwise don't have. I would say being able to get any pokemon from any non-future game with only one copy is pretty nice.
I understand your arguments but Gigantomax just turning pokemon into Kaiju, while much more generic, has even less time/place thematically than Megas and Z moves.

I hate when people use this reasoning, tbh. Every new Pokemon game comes out I use teams almost entirely of new Pokemon, or older Pokemon I haven't used before (like Banette in my Diamond team). After the story is all done I bring all of my old teams forward, all my old Pokemon that Ive trained over the past decade and a half, everyone comes forward so they're all in one place. I can mix and match them for use in battle facilities and in battles against friends.
Nobody is crying to use their level 100 team from Firered to breeze through any of the new games.

National dex is not being removed. I don’t know where you are getting that from but that’s just not true

GameFreak already made statements that you will not be able to bring your pokemon from older games into Sword/Shield, which IS the National Dex.
The REGIONAL is the pokemon you can catch within the game (or its pair).
What about post-game? I haven't looked into sword/shield at all.
Each title feels more generic than the last, with 2 hours of intro to slog through. Last ones I enjoyed were X/Y/ORAS, which unfortunately made battle-spot primarily 3v3.

GameFreak said that National dex will not be a part of Sword and Shield. Google it and you will see.

I love the concept of Mega Evos for casual play, but HATE them for competitive play, it is blantant favoritism and some others are thrown to the wayside and left shit. Farfetched for example has needed love SINCE gen 1, and he still doesn't have an alternative form (as far as we know) OR mega evo, so it is unfair you know?
- Z moves were still less gimmicky than their gigantomax mechanic (generic mega evolution)
I'm indifferent personally.

Yeah, this is just bad, I was ok with it when they said they were to improve graphics because of it, but the graphics are a near 1:1 copy from the 3DS, and the animations are still the same stilted look they have had, even though we HAD unique animations back in pokemon stadium, on FAR weaker hardware, though to be fair, that was just battles and mini games so maybe that is why, but still.
Not down for removal at all, period. I WILL like it for the sake of Nuzlocking, only getting new pokemon will be cool, but not having access to old favs is gonna suck afterwards.

Z moves were garbage as were Mega Evolutions. Nothing more than invincible mon gimicks for kids to get through the game. They really added nothing to the game play.
Though not having every single one of the old mons is a bummer, we will have some, and some will get new forms.
Mega Evolutions were fine for OU.
The only issue with Mega Evolutions is that there aren't enough of them in order to bring NU-UU up a notch. Instead they give them to plenty strong pokemon like Tyranitar, forcing it into Ubers.
Z-moves were pointless flair.

Z-moves being removed is a good choice though. Unlike Megas, which gave new life into some terrible pokemon, Z-Moves were boring “delete this Mon” moves that shouldn’t exist.
Some status Z-moves were cool, but ultimately didn’t do anything cool with the pokes who used them.
Paying for Nintendo online play is not something unique to Pokemon.
Paying for Nintendo online play is not something unique to Pokemon.
doesnt matter Pokemon on 3ds and ds was free to always trade with your friends from around the world and the service wasn't even bad due to it being mostly p2p.
Every game you have to pay online for.
Sony and Microsoft have been doing it for generations, Nintendo only recently decided to do it.
I wouldn’t recommend buying swsh anyway for other reasons, basically the death of the franchise and a horrible direction moving forward that shouldn’t be supported.
Even some ports for the PC require memberships (master chief collection will still require gold to play online.
All....Switch games you pay for the online? Isn't it only like 20 dollars a year?
Its just Nintendo finally caving to the times.
They tried to hold back as long as they could, but servers cost too much these days. I'm not surprised they moved it over to their monthly online subscription.
If you look at any other consoles, its much worse.
Never planned on getting it. They removed mega's and pokemon, thats just not acceptable to me. And I feel genuinly bad for people desperate enough to buy this garbage, because after a while they're probably just going to release "ULTRA SWORD AND SHEILD" which is going to be a shinier peice of garbage to drop 60$ on.

"Polished" sounds more accurate. Because, let's face it, they're both still low tier compared to the the previous 3 generations and the only way they're getting back up to par is restoring the old features.
Lets be real, the Marnie fanboys are definitely gonna buy them lol the artists already went crazy with her on various image sites on day one of Marnie being revealed.

I mean its pokemon, it is still going to sell like gangbusters, people can act like they are super upset, but let's be honest, just about EVERY one of those Youtubers complaining about the game...are still gonna buy it.
Alright I won't. Though tbf I already wasn't planning to, and already have Switch Online so online play isn't an issue.
This reminds me of the knowledge hub video I saw a few weeks back:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYU51Gebx4w
Anyways I'm pretty glad mega evolutions are gone. Game looks hideous thoug and Game freak should be embarrassed for releasing a game that bad.
