The stuff that's on the radio is often generic or outright trash lol, I don't think its fair to throw all music under the bus with pop though

There are tons of good songs and artists out today, not everyone falls into that category just because it's the most popular. If you want to find good music, don't listen to the radio, instead check out Soundcloud or Spotify.
Check out J.I.D., Vince Staples, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$/Pro Era crew as a whole, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Juice WRLD, Capital Steez, or Immortal Technique, all of them make or have made plenty of songs relating to more than just typical rap/hip hop themes.
I think you're only thinking popular music. There is so much good music out there, you just have to look!

Stay away from most radio and TV stations. They will pollute your senses by giving you outright garbage.
One thing I like about games and anime is that, not only you choose what you want to experience instead of being fed by default which is good, but also that it appears they have better sense of music than your radio and TV stations and is able to introduce the audience to them. Whereas otherwise, you basically have to stumble upon music by yourself and go out of your way to search for them given radio and TVs are too busy feeding you with crap, which is a shame.
This isn't to say there aren't garbage in game and anime music, but you can actually be introduced to good music by even the most marketed of them; the same probably can't be said about radio and TV station/programmes at large.
But hey.

Though I can see how this is an influence as to why 75% of marriages today result in divorce. These artists promote that, and look at the incentives: alimony, child support, and being able to not only break a man's heart, but ruin him. Stick to your power metal, and steer clear of marriage.
They don't need music to do that, they have commercials on TV encouraging people to have an affair. And I'm not just talking about "talk to hot grills now!" shit, I mean actually advertising to people that they should have an affair.
Nothing really changed for me though, I haven't touched a radio for anything other than emergency reports during/after a hurricane in nearly 15 years.
