"Tee hee, our Lead Designer said something bad about someone who's said a ton of worse things, let's fire him for that one moment of heated, very foolish choice of words posthaste, even though that's probably his first time ever doing something bad, and let him regret his actions forever as people probably harass him making his life as a living hell and they keep on living their ignorant lives like nothing happened and want their ape leader back lol!1!! xd xd xd"

He told someone to basically die, like, what isn't clear about that?

It's one thing for a community player to be a total shithead to a company. However, when a company employee, who represents a company that is trying to present themselves as civilized, level headed workers starts making inflammatory comments to their clients and customers, that person HAS to be punished harshly. Companies with HR offices, community investment, and a public image to protect have to take a no tolerance policy when an employee violates their code of conduct in the very visible public eye. This is no different than someone getting fired from their own job for being reported for harassment after making threats to customers. It's a business, he was an employee. He violated his place of work and he got fired for it.

Sure, him being fired is a little unexpected and probably not a necessity, but it's Riots decision, and if you think they're stupid for making that decision then good for you! But in the end they're neither right or wrong: Sanjuro was THEIR employee, and the fate of his employment is entirely up to them
