Counter Picks

So, I have a question that has been troubling to me for a long long time. I just started playing league of legends a few seasons ago (S6 I think). Anyways, if anybody have opinions or answers, feel free to drop it. My questions are: how to play against a hard counter (obviously dodging skillshots etc...) Like i mean hard counters like can f*ck you up type. Second, how to carry with a counter pick. Thanks.

If you get counterpicked, all you can do is not feed and hope your team carries. That's it.

If it's the type of counter that will constantly kill you: Just try your best to survive and scrape up what resources you can get. It's better to be behind then to let the enemy snowball off of you.

If it's the type of counter that will just shut you down: hope the rest of your team has your back and do the best that you can.

"Not doing well" is sorta the name of the game with hard counterpicks.

For carrying with a counterpick, that requires you to be good with said champion. Just picking the counter to your enemy won't mean anything 9 times out of 10, particularly if your opponent knows how to play their champion well. Other than that, it's just a matter of leveraging your strengths against the enemy team

Some of this depends on your role...

  • Play defensively around wave management. (try to just focus on freezing lane, and try to not let the enemy engage.)
  • Shove the wave really hard, then follow the enemy roams when they inevitably get frustrated and try to gank since they can't engage you in lane.
  • If you notice the enemy went back, shove their lane as hard as possible, then go ward the enemy jungle entrances or roam.
  • If you're jungle and being constantly counterjungled or countered during ganks, remember to shit wards like a rabbit. Seriously, place them everywhere. Overwrite them if necessary. Keep constant vision between you and them, and they will eventually screw up and get caught by you and your team in a bad area.
  • The best thing you can do as top lane is usually to just forget about engaging anyway. All your power at top comes from cs until mid game, so if you're counterpicked, play the most boring game possible, freeze lane at your tower, and don't make any aggressive moves til it's time to interrupt that teleport when they try to help their bot lane. Soon as you've done that, back off and keep enjoying your 10 minute island vacation. :P
  • Imo, bot's probably both the easiest and hardest to come back from in terms of counterpicks, since there's 2 of you each. On one hand, your other laner can actually completely cover your ass, and vice versa...on the other hand, bot lane can also come as a double counterpick, which royally blows. Always be on the lookout in bot lane to make a catch - things go from 0-276% really fast, and often times the one who engages wins the trade. ESPECIALLY as support, make sure the one who makes the catch is you. Then make your play, and promptly get out. Never give them the opportunity to turn it, or they will.
